My first great overseas adventure, many years ago, I climbed Snæfellsjökull (mostly for the Jules Verne literary connection - climbed Stromboli years later, for similar reasons) - my first volcano, off the list.

Had a long phone call today with one of my closest, dearest friends, who lives in Washington DC.
Felt deeply sad afterwards, knowing I may never see him in person again.
But we both agreed - it is folly for anyone to travel to, or through, the US, for any reason - possibly for many years to come.
