lol. same thing happens with objects. we're pretty good at making them, but we can't keep track of them, and we refuse to throw away ones we can't tell are broken.

Just a speculation.
This image makes me wonder what happens when it becomes load-bearing and starts getting flexed by wind. I assume the cells notice movement and respond by beefing up structure, with lignin and cellulose.
05.09.2025 20:23 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I've been looking at & thinking about root wood for a while. Theory that it grows differently. It seems lighter than limb/trunk wood of the same tree, because it's not under stress. More like styrofoam. Only sressed at the flare.

Also it takes one or two generations to kick in. So nobody sees it happening, and there's no bad guy.
Now here's a design phenomena that needs a name.

But if you pressed the ping pong ball down, you would feel the water resist.
cool experiment! Despite being heavier than water, the water is nevertheless applying a buoyancy force on the ball, and lightening the load on it's string.
Imagine the opposite. You have a ping pong ball on a tiny stick. You push it down into the water. Doesn't that push the scale?
