Wadawurrung for kangaroo is: goim.
goim ngurdang (female) and goim guliwan (male)

02.10.2025 21:22 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Pink and red tulips blooming beautifully
Pink foxglove flowers are beloved by gardeners and bees, but they contain a deadly poison. Due to the cardiac glycoside digitoxin, in the leaves, flowers and seeds of this plant, it is extremely poisonous to humans and some animals and can be fatal if eaten. All plant parts must be handled with extreme care.
Pretty in pink ... but one of them is a killer

Mount Arapiles and Mitre Rock - The Wotjobaluk name for the formation is Djurid. Named after the Djurid family that lived there for thousands of years before being forcibly removed from their land in the 1840s.

A forest of grass trees in the distance to show how many are actively growing, even after the bushfire.
Bushfire? What bushfire?
The grass trees (Xanthorrhoea) close to where the bushfire started, seem to have not only survived, but really thrived in the 6 months since.
Absolutely wonderful to see an entire forest of grass trees.

Remains of a forest of stringybark gum trees after the massive bushfire that destroyed over 95,000 square kilometres of desert. There are small buds of green leaves growing out from under the charred outer bark.
Epicormic growth begins to grow out of the burnt bark
Bushfire recovery 6 months later. While the fire decimated the undergrowth, many of the old stringybark trees survived and are beginning to start epicormic growth.

In January 2025 Australia was burning.
A year ago, I camped in the Little Desert in search of spring wildflowers and orchids. Sadly, I'm unlikely to see this desert bloom again in my lifetime. 95,000 hectares of desert burnt.
