Sky Dancing - A marker, ink, and paint pen drawing of two dragon-like winged creatures flying, one above, one below, with their heads almost touching in the center, silhouetted against a sun. The below creature is shades of purple worked over with gold ink, and covers more of the image; their head is pointed up, tilted to the left, their wings spread. Their body is covered with round scales with a decorative pattern on each in shades of purple. Their wings are edged with pointed scales, and the main part of the wings is covered with a dot and line X pattern. The above creature is shades of blue worked over with gold ink; their head is pointed down and tilted to the right, almost cheek to cheek with the below creature. Their body is only visible to the shoulders, and covered with diamond-shaped scales with a gold pebbled pattern. Their wings are edged with shaped scales in a three-petal flower pattern, and the main part of the wings is worked in an Art Deco style fan pattern, divided so that it is dark on one half and light on the other, then edged with a complementary blue line that is edged with gold. The sky behind them is yellow, dark at the top, lighter at the bottom, with a very light yellow sun edged with white paint pen. This is part of a series of pattern studies using dragon shapes, working gold opaque ink over shaded marker colours.

All the poppies with visible centers in the drawing have gold stamens. A green ribbon-style banner edged with gold sits across the chest of the hare, the left bottom curl drawn over the border of the drawing. The banner reads KING HARE in red decorative uppercase letters (I developed this font based on a number of 19th century fonts, edged with gold. Within the border, the background is a soft green, with darker green-grey shadow outlining the hare and poppies. Hare and poppy reference from vintage postcards (1898-1915), personal collection.

Left TW is lying on the second shelf down, gold feathered wings folded on their back, leaning on their elbows, looking at right TW, who is reaching for a book on the top shelf (Really Wicked Spells), trying to use their gold, blue, & yellow dragon wings to reach it (their feet do not touch the ground.)(Actually, their feet aren’t visible…). The left W is saying (in speech bubble): “…Asked The Prophet for new wings, huh? I TOLD you to wait until AFTER the summoning, “Smaug”!”. The right W is replying (in speech bubble) “Oh, shut up.”. The bookcase is brown wood. All the books have joke titles (like How to Knit Dr. Wu’s Cardigan!). Top shelf, L-R: a mysterious glowing machine, 13 books, a wooden box with a gold lock that has a cobweb & a mouse skull set on top, a three-eyed, fanged, skull under a glass dome, 11 books about Cryptids. 2nd shelf, L-R: a pink day planner (for 6000 b.c.e.), 15 diaries dating from 3000b.c.e.-1970c.e., left TW lying in front of books, 7 visible books, right TW’s arm & head, 7 more books. 3rd shelf, L-R: a box with air holes & 2 labels (DO NOT OPEN!, & CONTENTS: ONE CAT (MAYBE)) marked Schrödinger Animal Distribution, 7 books, a gold machine with black legs that has a glass top containing a large eye & smaller eyes on stalks, 2 books (Tiny Mobile Death Ray!), right TW’s body, 3 books. Bottom shelf, L-R: 22 books, the rest covered by right TW. Don’t worry, TWs are inseparable! And The Prophet will probably give them new wings soon(ish). TWs are in the library of The Mouse Prophet (also my OC). The book titles reference my other OCs, monsters, magic, & parodies of real books. Wings reference for left TW: TigerStrawberry/iStock, right TW: The Sforza Hours (1400s). My fave bit is right TW’s wings.

A marker, ink, and paint pen drawing of my OC, The Sad Alien Brain, a brown brain-like creature with long nerve-like fibers hanging down, floating in a tall glass tank filled with fluorescent greenish-yellow fluid, reading a book to their Axolotl-like attendants. The brain is wearing a pair of gold glasses, and is holding a red book in their long pink neuronal wire fibers. The book is “Paul Clifford” by Edward Bulwer-Lytton, which is the book that starts with the famous line “It was a dark and stormy night.”. The Axolotls are pink, with brighter pink gills and darker pink spots on their bodies, and they are wearing blue overalls, with their tails sticking out of a hole in the back. They are all sitting, cross-legged, in a half-circle around the front of the Brain’s tank, holding books, and smiling at the brain. They all have huge black oval eyes with light points, and their noses are reflecting the yellow-green of the tank lights (they’re shiny!). One Axolotl, on the right, is staring at their book, which is upside down. Oops! Behind the tank is the cavern wall, in the shadows; on the left, is a bucket, and mop leaning against a red lettered poster that says “KNOW YOUR CLEANING FLUID!”, with a picture of a cartoon Axolotl at the top right, and a red “NO!” over a bottle of ammonia next to a bottle of bleach (don’t mix these!). On the right of the tank, there is a barrel of “Industrial Glass Cleaner”, but the label is partially turned so that the first two letters in “glass” are not visible. This was done by my OCs, The Watchers (small interdimensional mouse-like creatures in robes, whose faces are not visible), one of whom has their head propped on their elbows, leaning on the barrel. The other Watcher is peeking out from behind the left side of the barrel. Above them is a white poster with blue lettering and a pink border that says “BOOK CLUB! Tuesdays! Read along with the BRAIN.”. This is a very silly drawing, and a very long alt text.

Aww that Moo Deng paint is so cute! 😍

Caraxes the Red Wyrm from "Fire and Blood" and House of the Dragon. Caraxes is a long snake-like slender red dragon. His head is similar to an alligators with devil horns with a beard of horns. Mid-stride, he walks awkwardly forward with one wing in front. In the distance is the castle Dragonstone and beyond the sky shows a sunset.

In this study I focused on how Sargent depicted the colors in this piece, but avoiding blacks. The darkness in this piece is achieved by high saturated warm and cool tones that give off the illusion of darkness. Even the dress is not black but dark saturated reds and blues. Her skin is stark pale compared to her dark dress. She has auburn hair with a small tiara shaped in a crescent moon. Her arms draped down her side. Her right arm twists to show her pale forearm with her fingers delicately resting on the table beside her. In her right hand we can see she's holding her gloves that match her dress, bringing attention to the bright wedding ring on her finger.

Here is mine : my small painting called Summer Craving. When I painted it, I actually hated the result. But many people loved this painting so much that over time, I grew a liking to it. Now it stands as a reminder that I am my worst critic!
