Today in history, 1942: Actress Hedy Lamarr and composer George Antheil receive a patent for frequency-hopping technology to protect radio-controlled weapons from jamming and interference. The technique later formed the basis for technologies such as Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth. /1
