I was at the memorial for Lee yesterday. The Zia flag that was over his coffin for the last flight home was really beautiful to see. The guy was a Burqueno all the way, so we went to the frontier for lunch right afterwards. Guarantee he was a regular growing up and going to UNM.

Oh you should! Manual Machining is a skill that’s always in demand, and it’s never the same. Tool and Die Makers are just amazing. Because all of the fancy automated manufacturing out there doesn’t mean jack when it breaks, and it gets fixed by someone on a mill or lathe.

If there’s one thing I’ve found about people who volunteer to work on trains: Everybody has interesting hobbies! Guarantee you’d fit right in.

Finished making a bracket for the firing g valve handle. Fly cut a surface on the angle steel, bored out a hole for the shaft, and generally made it WAAAAY fancier than it needs to be. But I like it. Nobody will ever see it, but it’s cool.

I know it’s more customary for cats, but I would pspspspsps the crap out of Wylie right there. In a “don’t get up, but totally get up and let me pet you” sort of way. I can’t be the only one.

I make at least one really dopey radio call a month. At least. Usually it’s right at the end of an oceanic crossing, but sometimes it to ground, after I flew a 7 hour leg, and then we exit the runway after landing and ground just gets word salad when they give us more than “north on Mike.” 😂

Yes. Fixing steam with a hammer and a blowtorch. Because the expansive effort of steam reacts really well with shitty maintenance and high clearance parts.
