The folks who get strict definitions stuck in their head are just banging their heads against the wall. I used to watch a single person who would go to every Steam game with the Roguelike tag and make a thread complaining about how each game was not fitting the Berlin Interpretation of Roguelikes

Indies over the past year have loved making Balatro-likes, Roguelikes connected to various gambling and parlour game systems, but with the upcoming release of Silksong indies are going to have to change their next "dream project" direction

So I propose a new genre:
Balatro-vanias

Joining a team as the "ideas person" and constantly demanding my other team members implement my terrible jokes

(I actually enjoy being a programmer and implementing my own terrible jokes, but if you tell me to design levels I will curl up into a ball)

I have to wonder how many posts in that subreddit are llm generated posts that also get llm generated replies that they then generate a reply to the reply, because the most important thing is engagement even if no one is a real person to engage with

That said, I also was always a small projects dev. I think a lot of people will dive headlong into long projects, stick with them for years, and never have a chance to experiment and find that, out of like 6 prototypes, only 1 actually is market viable.

So I love working on tiny projects but I seem to have lost connection with my ability to finish. I REALLY did like when I was able to release a game every month or so in XBLIG days, but then my standards went weird after MYF. Now I seem to have trouble with staying w/ a project past the "fun" parts

Okay but do they have those sinks that run when you flush the toilet so you have to clean your hands before the toilet refills

And make something you're interested in making! Blindly following a trend without passion for what you're making is a easy path to either not finishing a project, or not understanding a target audience. Enjoy the process of creation, because otherwise why not just get a generic 9-5 anyway!
