For the moment, I'm unfortunately gonna choose the latter and hope the landscape changes or that at some point another similar anthology opens up. It hurts - when I write it's almost entirely out of "people need to see this so I have to finish it" - but it is what it is

The biggest bummer for me with the itchio stuff is that the t4t werewolf4werewolf story I'd written to target a monsterfucker anthology now has no home. There's so little paying publication market for explicit queer sexuality that it's either send it somewhere free or shelve it.

(and lists are public so if I start a new list that is just "my actual new timeline" with fewer people then I'm doing the same thing except trying to soothe people's feelings by not directly showing them I've unfollowed which...)

Anyway if I unfollow you it's because I am interested enough in you that I don't want to "stay followed but mute" because then I wouldn't see you at all, but especially since bluesky has no way to turn off reposts from specific folks I'm limited in cleaning options

I wish there was a version of unfollowing that indicated "I don't think you're bad" because I'm gonna be cutting down some of my follows soon to narrow down on what makes social media work for me and I know people might take it personally when it's, like, brain spring cleaning

(technically during that high school period I also tried a novelization of the plot of Resident Evil 2 in the writing style of SD and Steve Perry's Aliens Vs Predator books but considering I was 3 chapters in and they hadn't even made it to the fucking police station at that point let's ignore that)

The first draft doesn't have to be perfect. It just needs the breath of life in it and needs to exist, to provide a structure for what is to come. And in my imperfect, unpracticed way, I am making that life.

I'll finish this first draft this year. I can't wait to share the final one.

Now I realize I fell into the classic traumatized neurodivergent gifted kid trap: I didn't do it right the first time, so I am shitty at it and should never try again.

I need to share this story so bad I've been willing to face this fear. I can't wait for people to see this and it keeps me going
