It's a real failure on the part of @cbcradiocanada.bsky.social and other Canadian media outlets to be myopically focusing on tourists and missing the larger story at play here. Not everything is about Canadians first. Ximena GonzΓ‘lez nails it here. #cdnmedia

I can imagine how awful that must have felt! Thank you for sharing. We can absolutely have policies that make schools places all our kids can thrive, and we cannot lose sight of that truth.

No. The presence of police in schools in harmful to racialized and Indigenous children. The data from OCDSB and other boards are very clear about that. Police make white people feel safe, not all people feel safe. The fear that racialized children feel is real and justified. No police in school.

…food security makes schools safer. Dr. Ross Greene’s upcoming book β€œThe Kids Who Aren’t OK” clearly outlines the negative impacts of β€œhardening” of schools on children.

There are policy solutions to ensure a massacre like Tumbler Ridge never happens again, and we can enact them.

Should police be in schools?

NO.

Canada must not be pulled into US propaganda about school safety. Police officers, metal detectors, and cameras don’t make schools safer. Reducing the number of guns in the community, restricting access to high capacity guns, funding mental health access, and /1

"OpenAI said it trains its models to discourage users from committing real-world harm..."

Soooo did the chatbot's actual answers discourage her from committing violence, then? Given its responses to suicidal queries, seems like a relevant question??

Ford 'doesn't know what he's talking about' when it comes to basket weaving, Indigenous artist says | CBC News A third-generation Indigenous basket maker is setting the record straight about his craft β€” it's a part of his culture, it's valuable, and artists can make a living off of it.

Spencer Lunham Jr.'s art is incredible! I've never seen baskets like the ones he is creating.

And also: it is LONG past time that we dump this Ford government. #onpoli

Grateful to see the humanity of Canada federal leaders in this moment of immense tragedy. I don't take this for granted, and it is a reminder that this is how we should expect our elected leaders to act: with humanity and grace. Love and solidarity with the community of Tumbler Ridge. #cdnpoli

So, Canada: what organization is going to lead on gun violence prevention in the wake of the massacre in Tumbler Ridge? When the Canadian Coalition for Firearm Rights is out here giving away firearms and messaging "It's Raining Guns", we need organized and concerted pushback. #cdnpoli #Canada

School shootings are an access to guns and ammunition, childhood abuse, lack of community, and lack of health care problem. These are problems with solutions.

"A few hours ago, I posted an image of someone I believed to be the Tumbler Ridge school shooter before that identification had been verified. The post was removed within minutes. I have also been proactively reaching out to accounts sharing the same unverified image to encourage its removal so others do not repeat the mistake.

Speed is never an excuse for inaccuracy, and I will exercise greater caution moving forward.

Sincere apologies for contributing to any confusion."

Sadly, I think AI. Look at the muffin tin which is shaped like no muffin tin I've ever seen, a white ceramic mug on the third shelf from the bottom with two handles, and the lights reflecting on the glass of the art. Boo generative AI slop.

I cannot see how a police chief remains standing after at least nine of their officers are arrested for allegedly being involved in some of the city's most frightening violence, some allegedly directed at other members of their staff.
