When LLMs Write Our Papers Four writing issues I notice as a reviewer — and how to fix them

While reviewing for #CHI2026, I've noticed four new writing issues in #HCI papers, likely due to an increased use of #LLMs / #AI. I describe them here - and how to fix them: dbuschek.medium.com/when-llms-wr...

Being an AC for #chi2026 has been interesting so far. I’m senior reviewer for 7 papers and reviewer for 6.
- 4 assisted desk rejects (ADR)
- 2 more should have been ADR
- only 1 useless ChatGPT review.
- 5 reviews where text doesn’t justify the recommendation clearly (that I asked them to fix)

Michael’s team managed to use this tech to replicate a known theta pattern to formal EEG on the lab, and (with more noise) the same pattern in the wild. #chi2025

Next up Michael Knierim (KIT) is presenting our paper on detecting flow, in the wild, using EEG headphones. Participants wore a ring of EEG around the ear for a whole day. #chi2025
