It's Ebay mailing day... and only after I roped in an Eastern Curlew stamp (it's the bird) to help uprate an old pre-stamped envelope did I realise that it was heading to Curlew Street! If this gives you satisfaction, you are my people. #philately

Australian 'bush poet' and excellent moustache owner Henry Lawson appeared on a 1949 stamp and a 2017 minisheet. He died in sorry circumstances in 1922, but still earned a few mentions in my recent blog post as I investigated a mysterious 1927 postcard... 🔎

The Australian Impressionist painter Sir Arthur Streeton earned himself a mention in my last blog post as I researched a historic postcard. Has he made an appearance in your stamp collection?

Writer and activist Mary Gilmore campaigned for economic and social reforms that many Australians probably take for granted today. She appeared on a 1973 stamp and can be seen on the Australian $10 note. And she popped up in my latest blog post!👇

A vintage postcard depicts Singapore's Anderson Bridge. The back of the postcard is partially displayed, bearing a Straits Settlements stamp and the address of Norman Lilley Esquire. An excerpt of the postcard message reads 'There are no flies here!' and it is signed "H.J.L."

Who was 'Norman Lilley Esq'... and why did "H.J.L." send him this postcard in 1927 commenting on the absence of flies in Singapore? I set out for answers in my latest blog post. I could not have anticipated where the road would take me! 👇

The Talented Mr. Lilley (and his friends) A chance discovery sheds light on a flourishing artistic scene from the past

In my new blog post, the mystery of a one-line 1920s postcard from Singapore becomes a window into early 20th-century arts, politics and literature, and somehow ends up involving Ripley's Andrew Scott and dung beetles. It's a wild ride! Enjoy! 👇 #philately #postcard

YouTube video by Exploring Stamps The Rolling Jenny Project: Making Lenticular Stamps

Some in-flight wifi presented an appropriate opportunity to finally catch up on this joyful and ridiculous project by Graham of Exploring Stamps. 🙌 (Fortunately my plane did not attempt a similar manœuvre.)

Graham Beck from Exploring Stamps sent me a postcard from the 2025 Great American Stamp Show, featuring the classy new Boston 2026 Expo stamps under this amazing postmark! (And also Betty White. 🙌) Hard not to get excited with this kind of early promotion.

Thanks so much! I received a very similar translation on another platform so it’s good to see the consistency. I think the mystery has been solved!

If you happen to be in my town of Melbourne, Australia next Sunday, I'll see you at the stamp fair celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Brighton Philatelic Society (@bps-stamps.bsky.social)... won't I?

If we share a home town (Melbourne, Australia 👋) then you might like to get along to Brighton Philatelic Society tonight (Tuesday 12 August) where I'm talking about online philately at 7.15pm. It's followed by a thematic display on Martin Luther King. ⬇️

My search results suggest that no one has yet said #EuroPhilEx on this platform. If you came here looking for that hashtag then you should come looking for me at EuroPhilEx! 🤗

This was a fantastic night, and a great example of the enjoyable looseness of club displays compared to the seriousness of competitive exhibits. I learned a lot about dahlias and even tempted Mrs Punk into the clubhouse for the first time! Nice one Deb 🙌

I discovered the daytime hideout of the local family of tawny frogmouth, the star of this stamp from Australia’s 2021 issue, ´Nature’s Mimics’. Being nocturnal, they adopt strange poses to disguise themselves as tree branches during the day. Unfortunately their snoring gave their position away. 🙄

Chinese-speaking friends, can you tell me what these inscriptions say on the back of a sheet that has come my way? The auto-translations are intriguing, but unclear. I’d love to hear what a human says.

(I added the numbers on the images.)

I don’t know if there’s a #catsofbluesky yet, but if you like #cats - especially if you can’t actually keep one - then collect #catsonstamps! No feeding, no cleaning up, and you can house thousands of them on a bookshelf or in a cupboard! For more on this guy: punkphilatelist.com/2024/11/17/j...
