It rests on the assumption that people who don't talk first, don't care about you. Some people have anxiety and can't always speak up first. Some people are too busy to think about being social... But none of that says anything about how much they care.

Been seeing that "once you stop talking first, you realize who your real friends are" idea float around the furry community... I lived with that mindset when I was a teen, took me a long time to realize that's a really toxic thought.
