a stack of cassette tapes from the 1990s
In this week's newsletter, I share a playlist full of dreamy pop, talk about long-ago mall record stores and share a bit about my "Your Ghost" @marchxness.bsky.social essay. (This photo represents a small portion of my 1990s-bought tape collection.) anniezaleski.substack.com/p/you-were-d...

I had one dream in this life and it was to become Special Envoy for the Shield of the Americas. This is devastating. I ask for privacy at this difficult time.

Definitely a sense of pride in his work in those post-statue pics. "Those tacky abominations, shattered at last. I am a good cat, and a pretty cat. And a cat with taste."

I realized some important stuff last year and it changed (restored?) my trajectory as an artist. I wrote about it here:

A Volkswagen Beetle, customized with a Rolls Royce style front end by George Barris, with a custom paint job celebrating Capitol Recording Artists (the) Raspberries. If I win the lottery you'll see a replica in my driveway at some point. Oh also there are a couple of clearly borderline-legal young models leaning on it seductively.
I'll race them in the Raspberries Rolls

A woman with thick curly hair and dark lipstick stares into the camera. She wears wire-rimmed glasses, a maroon cardigan, black leotard, and an old-fashioned Western string tie with a yellow stone.
ALBUM REVIEW: Bee Delores proclaims Wren Carpenter "a beautiful force of nature" on their EP of sparkling demos Charmed, I'm Sure.
(Editor's note: Wren is the kind of extremely talented gem of an artist I do this work for.)

The first dates of the Programme 4 tour are in! Screenings, guest stars, music, comedy--lots of fun, with many more dates/venues coming soon. What better time to grab some like-minded friends and escape to a better, weirder world?

There is far too much pressure to live your best life these days. Leave me alone and let me live my most middling life in peace, with the colourful miscellany of highs and lows that naturally entails.

Leonard Cohen - I'm Your Man (Official Live in London 2008)
Forty years later the klezmer-noir of Leonard Cohenβs βIβm Your Manβ LP remains the most radically successful reinvention of any of the major songwriters from the 1960βs. A moral and geopolitical hellscape staged as Vegas review. One part Rat Pack, one part Leviticus. www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZOT...

A screenshot of Rachel Dratch from SNL. She's a white woman with short dark hair and blue eyes, and she's making an awkward expression that implies, "Sorry I have to tell you this and ruin your good time. But also I'm kind of not sorry about it." I've added a subtitle that reads, "That's AI."
an updated debbie downer sketch but it's friends showing her funny videos and she has to respond like this to every single one like this:

This is a Nazi move. Stripping people of rights, invalidating their IDs, setting them up for criminalization and imprisonment.
If you don't support trans rights, you support fascism.

I like The Saint. It's not gonna put Danger Man/Secret Agent out of business but Moore is very charming, the scripts are mostly pretty tight & there are lots of fun guest stars.

Kansas is criminalizing the existence of trans people
I need journalists to care about this
Kansas is forcing trans people out of public life
I need journalists to care about this
Kansas is making it impossible for trans people to exist in the most fundamental ways

The final scene of Blake's 7, in which (spoiler alert--you've had 45 years) the entire crew is (evidently) slaughtered by Space ICE, leaving only Ker Avon alive, hopelessly surrounded by fascist assholes, surely within seconds of death, yet unbowed, raising gun slowly but defiantly, blaze of glory or nothing, that's how it has to be. "Besides, they can't kill me off now, Servalan isn't even in this one. Yes, it's inevitable, I'll get out of this, probability be damned..."
For some reason in this picture Avon's white collar looks like he's wearing a teensy white bikini top. Might just be the edibles kicking in.
