Really enjoyed seeing & hearing about the work of so many great local artists in the #materialities exhibition last week @ #driehausmuseum curated by @giovannialoi.bsky.social. Here's @rbeachy.bsky.social speaking about the creative process behind her piece in the next slide! #art #chicago #ecology

Since today is Robigalia, here's a rust fungus (cedar-apple gall). If you're unfamiliar, it is an ancient Roman holiday during which a sacrifice was made to protect their wheat fields from the wheat rust fungus.

Gah, I'm sorry, Alex. That's really hard. I know you're going to pull through, but yeah...that's rough.
And I saw the honorable mention today and have been meaning to congratulate you! Just didn't expect it would be this way...

Terrestrialization: toward a shared framework for ecosystem evolution
#plants, #animals, & #fungi, oh my! New paper by K. Boyce and I in #paleobiology on the rise of Phanerozoic terrestrial ecosystems. We synthesize paleo/neontological data and also discuss the importance of phylogenies for lineages lacking a robust fossil record. www.cambridge.org/core/journal...

How did ants take over the world? Well, it looks like they didnโt achieve world domination all by themselves. They may have just been riding the wave of a totally different evolutionary explosion.
