I’m playing 3D chess here, but I reckon the Trump administration has forced the Supreme Court decision on tariffs.
It bails him out from an economic perspective, and it gives him someone to blame.

He’d have made a fortune under Thatcher running an electric services company for right-to-buy properties. He’d have been pro-Brexit and would probably now be Reform PPC for Newcastle Central…

The Soviet Union had a very blithe attitude to their military losses and their tactics reflected that. Helps explain why 26 million Russians died in WW2. Putin has the same mentality.

In a thriller, the ambitious ex-military guy with minimal parliamentary experience who becomes PM, then ends up organising a coup!

These things have a habit of escalating once MPs spend time in their constituencies talking to party officers and workers, and going on the doorstep.

I don’t think that’ll work as a defence I’m afraid.

As soon as people can ask β€œwhat did he know and when did he know it”, you know you’re in the endgame.
Think back to previous PM resignations. They’ve doubled-down, because they have to, but then the get wider counsel and see the light.

One theory may be that as a Lab member in the 80s it was incredibly hard and depressing. Tories seemed unbeatable, had all the momentum and ££ while Labour were split, old fashioned and weren’t very good at elections.
It was Mandelson who changed all that.

After 1997, yes. But for the decade before that he did more than anyone to make Labour electable.

Changes were announced in 1993 that would not come into effective until 2015 at the earliest (when those born in 1950 turned 65) That’s 22 years notice.

When the UK company I worked for was taken over by a big US multi-national, we had senior execs come over to join us from the US. They all said the holiday entitlement (25 days as opposed to 12) and not having to announce your holiday plans on Jan 1 was a big attraction of making the move!
