I think about this a lot.

Though part of that was definitely watching older family struggle with college debt while my school put us in rooms with loan creditors telling us "you'll never amount to anything in life unless you sign this paper saying we own you for the next 30 years".

That shit should be illegal.

For the record, I was a good kid. Quiet, well-behaved, straight-A student, at least at first. It was after years of putting up with horrible teachers that I became disillusioned and stopped caring, and my grades started to slip as a result.

Thinking back I had maybe two or three good teachers throughout all of school. My 3rd grade teacher hated me and emotionally abused me throughout the year I spent in her class. And while it won't undo the damage, it's heartening to think that, because of her age at the time, she's probably dead now.

Literally "NO, ART ISN'T ABOUT COLOR AND EXPRESSION, DO IT THE SAME AS EVERYONE ELSE"

Except it's even sillier than that because, again, it was supposed to be a "do whatever you want" exercise.

Tons of my teachers growing up were like this. And we were the "better" of the schools in our district.

Random thing I remembered from childhood: back in middle school art we were doing a freeform exercise and I drew a fleur-de-lis with different colors for each petal. The teacher told me they don't look like that and to start over.

I think that was when I learned not to take some teachers seriously.

Especially for a spinoff game, why should they be constrained to specific sizes of settings?
