if the enclosure is the sort that can be opened and if it's a sata hard drive you can plug that into your pc, a small chance the enclosure itself has died and the hard drive is fine. I've had a lot of hard drives die on me over the years and yeah, it is the worst feeling.

With it being an external hard drive from 2008, is it a normal sized hard drive or a small laptop sized hard drive within the external enclosure? does the enclosure itself have visible screws for opening it? is the hard drive inside the enclosure the old style ribbon cable hard drive or sata?

Get yourself the program called "Glary File Recovery Pro [Portable]", just a cracked version, with that I think you might be able to scan the hard drive and recover data from it, the website you will find this on will be fcportables DOT com

What type of hard drive? ssd or mechanical? is it making a continuous clicking noise? has the partition become corrupted and the hard drive itself works? does the hard drive show up in device manager? are you able to see the partitions within disk management?

I just realized something, before Epic took over Artstation it was a website for artists to share their work and find jobs from that, after Epic took over Artstation it became a website to advertise Unreal Engine.
