In 1939, at the age of just 34 years old, she was appointed lecturer in History, Uni of Cambridge.

Behrens lectured in a hat because women were not full members of Cambridge University, and were therefore not entitled to lecture in academic gowns. #WCCWiki

A portrait of Jessie Webb, lecturer in history at the University of Melbourne, in academic dress, standing outside what is now the Old Law building at the University. Taken by Doris McKellar, date unknown (certainly between 1908 and 1944), though probably between 1914 and 1918, when McKellar took portraits of many University staff.

2025 was a wildly fascinating ride into gendered histories throughout the past!! Here's a selection of some of the #WCCWiki #Wikipedia pages from across the year that we created or edited, including the achievements and challenges we faced as a community ...

Over 2025, #WCCWiki met monthly online to create and edit #Wikipedia pages together. Meetings were open to everyone and training offered if people were new to editing. Everyone's a volunteer! And most of our community are ECRs or precariously/underemployed.
