Had a ton of fun returning to the show and revealing my transformation into a James Bond Sicko while discussing Brosnan's debut and what may well be 007's most fun outing!
16.10.2025 22:33 β π 8 π 3 π¬ 1 π 0Continued: Panels from chapter 1 of Takao Saito's adaptation of "Live and Let Die", featuring a trapped Bond as he watches Mr.Big's henchman Sam Miami burn a traitor to death with a flamethrower mounted in his desk. Read right-to-left. Panel 1: Wide shot of the device being used on its victim, Bond looking on in shock. Panel 2: Close-up of the victim. Panel 3: Close-up of Bond, distraught. Panel 4: Close-up of Sam. Sam (thinking): Ufufu...
All the discussion of 007 and continuity has me thinking about one of the more interesting bits of of Takao Saito's 1964 adaptation of Live & Let Die.
Here, we see Saito establishing continuity between his manga and the film series in a subtle way, by evoking Quarrel's death in Dr. No (1962).
Great bit from a highlight of Moore's tenure as Bond.

Series of screenshots from the 1967 animated Spider-Man series. A group of students in the cafeteria look at a disturbance caused by Peter Parker, a Black man in the upper-right corner of the frame.
Also, the casual inclusion of Black characters without caricature in an integrated school environment is notable for the time! Nothing incredible, but a thoughtful, not terribly common addition, especially at a time when Brown vs. BoE was only a little over a decade in the past.
20.06.2025 00:01 β π 33 π 9 π¬ 0 π 0While the actual animation here isn't perfect, it's still compelling framing and composition to deliver its ideas visually in a way that would be particularly difficult in live-action. Despite the limitations of television animation, they manage some effective, economical visuals.

While there are certainly more issues with photography and compositing than under Grantray-Lawrence's tenure, the Ralph Bakshi-helmed seasons two and three of Spider-Man '67 certainly offer more compelling composition, draftsmanship, and visual design that compensates for their lack of consistency.
