I'm just not sure he has the 1-2 min w/kg to match pog/mvdp on those climbs, but he has the ability to come back as the Aerobullet
Just 2 years ago, especially in one day races, it wasn't known who the strongest was and/or the strongest didn't win at times (even more so 3+ years ago). It was much more unpredictable and that was the norm rather than exception
And that's completely changed in the last 2 years
Less than 2 weeks of me having to argue with people about basic tactics LETSGOOOO

07.10.2025 10:55 โ ๐ 11 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 1...and then G2 can catch them where teammates can attack.
Because right now many riders just pull with them as if they haven't beaten them almost every time for the last 3 years
But yes, going at your pace is always better than blowing up Alaphillippe style.
The thing is that there are riders that can follow Pog/MvdP, they just choose to pull with them instead of sitting on (Mads and his team, Remco, Ganna in E3 etc.). If you sit on them, they wont just pull you and...
There were helpful factors there being relatively flat parcour after the attack + headwind + Remco and Skjelmose being along not having anyone sitting on
If riders did decide to pull together, they'd catch Tadej more often
but biggest mistake is done before Tadej's attack with everyone just waiting
The slight problem is that he will have MvdP with him (if we're talking about spring classics here) and catching them both pulling at 100% is difficult
It would be viable in Amstel for example and they had 3 or 4 riders in the group but iirc no one pulled (maybe 1) from their team so there is that๐
They could in many cases.
But for most of riders in said group that would mean getting dropped and losing a chance of a medal so many (wisely) opt not to pull and so G2 syndrome happens
Again, it's mainly up to the pre-race favorites to pull behind and their teammates
So usually it's down to 2-3 top competitors of Pog to chase him down + their teammates. Often they also get discouraged from pulling with many riders sitting on (for example Remco in euros, but imo he should've just ignored them and dropped them later)
Best tactic is to anticipate with a teammate
Problem with chasing him down is that
a) there's usually not many riders left as he attacks on the hardest part
b) most are cooked so cant pull much
c) For most riders its not wise to pull as they will get 100% dropped if they do pull so better to play negative and hope for a medal
Attacking in the hardest part of the race, crazy advanced tactic

06.10.2025 18:36 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Pogaฤar's tactics are generally pretty basic: "Attack once you are running out of teammates and ride everyone off the wheel"
But next to Remco and Mads in one day races he does look like a tactical genius
Circle of life meme with Remco and Pedersen genius tactics
