Global Network Initiative

The WSIS+20 Review assessed progress toward the original WSIS vision: a people-centered, inclusive, development-oriented Information Society. As implementation begins, civil society will be key to ensuring commitments turn into concrete action.

The series is part of a year-long project by GNI & Global Partners Digital, supported by the inaugural ICANN Grant Program, working with civil society partners across Bangladesh, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, India, Ghana, South Africa, Tanzania & Zambia.

Outcome Document of the High-Level Meeting of the General Assembly on the Overall Review of the Implementation of the Outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society (2025)

🇺🇳 GNI welcomes the #WSIS+20 Outcome Document, which reaffirms the multistakeholder model, grants the IGF a permanent mandate, and strengthens human rights language. WSIS+20 marked a critical moment in internet governance, and sustained engagement in the process was a major undertaking for GNI.

At #RightsXSummit in Geneva, GNI and @UNHumanRights B-Tech co-hosted a workshop on responsible AI design, led by GNI's Elonnai Hickock with Patrick Montjourides (U. Zurich), Ncumisa Willie (Vodacom), and Isabel Ebert & Anselme Trochu (OHCHR), examining human rights risks across the AI lifecycle.

Building a Rights-Respecting Digital Future: GNI Reflections on Revisions 1 and 2 of the WSIS+20 Outcome Document - Global Network Initiative Revisions 1 and 2 signal meaningful momentum within the WSIS+20 review.

🌐 As we approach the WSIS+20 High-Level Meeting on 16–17 December, the release of Rev1 & Rev2 of the Outcome Document reflects how far collective advocacy has moved the needle.
