university prof in the fight to keep US higher ed from going down the shitter
Republicans and Gov DeWine have made OH parents much less likely to send their children to college in-state. And why would someone want to attend an OH university from another part of the US when a legislative majority view educators as the enemy?

God what a tool Klein is. Has he heard of Professor Watch? Is broadcasting an online list of faculty to harass and abuse them "practicing politics the right way?" It's terrible Kirk was murdered. He still was an immoral grifter who profited off of social conflict.

Succinctly states where we are and what's happening. These three things, in addition to doing much else, are the sheet anchors of American wealth and power.

"But betting on staying neutral and quiet on [SB 1] didnโt pay off for the institutions.
Gov. Mike DeWineโs budget proposal didnโt include that 2% funding bump after all. The governorโs plan calls for just a 0.1% boost next year."
Great strategy IUC! What a bunch of dopes.

See President Pinto? This is what having integrity looks like.
These statements from other university administrations are the kind of communications that faculty and others in the UC community are looking forโand the lack of a response like these is why faculty and others are protesting Tuesday.
โFirst and foremost, our commitment to our mission โso that all may learnโ is enduring, and we have no intention of shrinking from itโ

Finally, in an interview with the Western Michigan University student newspaper, president Edward Montgomery responded to questions about the future plans in light of the Dear Colleague letter in direct and unequivocal fashion:

In contrast, UC faculty and staff have never been considered worthy of contributing to conversations about how UC should respond and certainly haven't been given clear or consistent information about what decisions are being made and why--the "university partners" have mostly been kept in the dark.

"OHIO strives to be a University community where all belong, which requires that we provide equal access to resources and opportunities while also celebrating the unique perspectives and backgrounds that individual members bring to the larger whole.

Perhaps Rider can speak differently because they are a small private university? Well Ohio University is a public research institution in our own state. What do they have to say?

"Given the potential impact of these developments, we have convened a study group of staff, faculty and students to inventory the full range of DEI initiatives, programs and activities at Rider as a first step toward understanding the DCL."

See if Pinto offers any statement of principle as clear as this one from Rider University's president:
25.02.2025 03:20 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0UC's president argues that he has no choice but to submit such abject capitulation. If that were the case, though, you'd expect leaders of other universities to respond similarly. Let's take a look at a few and see if we can find any differences...
25.02.2025 03:20 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0This craven announcement by the University of Cincinnati president in response to Ohio's proposed SB1 and the Department of Education's recent "Dear Colleague" letter has widely circulated through social media, justifiably as the object of much derision.
25.02.2025 03:20 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Yeah, I of course think we'd have a much better society if everyone was empathetic towards each other. Comedy won't work without some friction, though, and so good comedians really do have to thread a needle as Seinfeld suggests. And even then everyone won't agree if the eye has been threaded.
29.04.2024 20:12 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Ok, yes, to be fair I have not heard the entire interview. That said, comedians have always complained about people being offended--it's in the nature of the work. If he's claiming we're now in a particularly restrictive era I would disagree with him there...
29.04.2024 20:01 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Why is everyone so quick to criticize? He's making the point that times change and good comedians change with them. He told jokes in the vernacular of humor of the time. Doesn't make him a horrible guy. Ever wonder what language you use now that in the future someone will use to castigate you?
