Remember, the time of year
when the future appears
like a blank sheet of paper
a clean calendar, a new chance.
On thick white snow
You vow fresh footprints
then watch them go
with the windโs hearty gust.
Fill your glass. Hereโs tae us. Promises
made to be broken, made to last.

Contested Rites
Today, enjoy a moveable feast: the story of fasts and thanksgivings in early America.
A decade ago, @sarageorgini.bsky.social explored the history behind early Thanksgiving declarations that attempted to appeal to religion without privileging one denomination and to invoke civil authority without the blessing of a king.
