Hang in there, it's a brutal system but we are so many in all this and sharing makes it more manageable, so thank you! 🙌 Hope most reviewers have been honest and useful and you could see the quality of your work getting better and better

probably months... and it's easy to oversee the decrease in quality of their research due to the psychological toll of grant rejection: I guess more months of passion and new ideas vanished, unseen

Not to mention postdocs who lead a project on behalf of the professor and (rightly) leave the first name to their PhD student and the last to the Prof... this *is* already a career killer; an index about it would further amplify this nonsense

🎵 Sound-controlled crystals?

In a recent Chemical Communications publication, researchers have discovered that low-frequency audible sound can steer which polymorphs form during crystallisation. A game-changer for #Pharma & #MaterialsScience!

I wonder how many Japanese academics would drink a Sake called "Sake of clarity"; the romans used to say "In vino veritas", so they already took the lead... (yes, I mean Pb)

The chemistry community should ban drawing chemical structures with generative AI, chemists warn AIs like Microsoft's Copilot, Google's Gemini and OpenAI's ChatGPT still make serious errors rendering structural formulae

Despite their sleek appearance, Audrey Moores found that AI generated chemical structures on second glance were consistently incorrect, despite multiple rounds of prompt engineering.

No, random assignment using the GnBu_r color map... I did not try systematic but I have the feeling that this way it looks better and more "natural"

Time for a new 57th entry in my #Reciprocart gallery! This time we look at the frequency spectrum of a Hyperbolic tiling of triangles 📐 Unsurprisingly (for the experienced) it's a bunch of lines... but the hexagonal symmetry is visible if one looks close enough 🧐 #crystallography #Braggyourpattern

A graph showing the process of single crystal diffraction analysis as a semicircle, starting from a crystal, and continuing with scattering data, Bragg intensities, average structure, and at the end average model.

Every now and then I might post important concepts on single crystal diffraction analysis from my recent review. Today, this wrapped-up version of figure 1 reminds us what we lose in the process, and what we actually gain at the end: a model 💎

Sometimes it even acts as dramatic saying something like "I need to update, it's been months and you still did not let me do it, there are viruses and all sorts of nasty forces trying to get you!" or something similar

You sure you did not have the automatic update option active? I remember it was on by default on mine, but once I changed it to "off" I feel like my laptop's Lord, granting update rights whenever I please 😑
