Why you might not know that 2024 was America's safest year since the 1960s
An overwhelming majority of Americans, 64 percent, believe that crime increased across the country in 2024, according to a Gallup survey conducted late last year.
Important analysis here on crime rates in the USA.
tl;dr: Crime rates in 2024 were at historic lows despite crime being a major talking point of politicians, while corporate media sensationalizes violent crime but doesn't cover the story when crime rates go down.

One of my deeply held beliefs is that if we could condition people to accept how chance affects their lives, theyβd be much better equipped to recognize how systemic things impact them.

Medicare & You handbook with a wallet containing US cash and a Medicare card
60 years ago this week, Medicare was signed into law - and today, people over 65 & those with major disabilities have many choices in the program.
But as new research from @leilll2010.bsky.social et al shows, many of those navigating these choices may need more help: ihpi.umich.edu/news-events/...

As Medicare turns 60, research suggests more need for annual enrollment help
Pair of studies show older adults, including those with dementia, may be switching between plans without getting impartial help picking the plan thatβs best for them
This week, #Medicare turns 60.
Nearly 69 million Americans over 65 or with major disabilities rely on it.
But as new work led by @leilll2010.bsky.social shows, many don't get help picking the best option for them from the many choices available under the program: ihpi.umich.edu/news-events/...
