Spouse has been incapacitated with the flu, kids are squirrelly af from being trapped at home (one was out sick all week), and while I am so fortunate to be able to WFH, Iβve had at least one kid home for over a week and canβt get any meaningful focus time.

Connor MacDavid is swigging from a water bottle with a horrified and haunted look on his face. The word FUCK is overlaid on the image, incorporating the C from his jersey.

17.02.2026 16:39 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0That is great to hear! I have family in rural PA, semi-rural TN, and Philadelphia. Iβd say the folks in the first two categories are not super aware, but my SIL in Philly is. Sheβs also the most actively political (and left-leaning) one.
16.02.2026 15:55 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0My parents are *also* there right now - selling their little winter home so they can never go back π I really hope we can repair with our neighbours once the Scourge is gone, but itβs not going to be that simple.
16.02.2026 00:36 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Thank you for saying so! π Itβs extra tricky having married an American (who is very much aligned with me politically) - thatβs his home and his family is there. My family! We havenβt been since 2023, but canβt stay gone forever. I think thatβs different from taking a vacation.
15.02.2026 22:32 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 4 π 0I know π Especially for a Floridian. We were in Atlanta, which is pretty liberal, but my coworkers are from all over North America.
15.02.2026 22:12 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Anyway, I did the best I could to avoid injecting Canadian $ into the economy. For the one meal I had to buy myself, I found a non-chain taqueria with a progressive pride flag on the door (and the tacos were delicious ngl)

15.02.2026 21:54 β π 14 π 0 π¬ 5 π 0I was in the USA this past week. For work, not optional. I was chatting with one of my new coworkers, who lives in Florida. He asked how Canadians are feeling about βeverythingβ and I told him about the anger and the boycotts and the signs in our grocery stores helping us avoid American products.

There isnβt really a solid part three to this thought, but on many occasions over the past ~5 years Iβve had to ask people - sometimes more than once - to stop explaining bitcoin to me. I have limited memory resources. It sounds completely untethered to reality.
And now I feel totally vindicated π₯³
Examples: driving a manual transmission car (this one will get me in the most trouble, I KNOW lots of people prefer/enjoy it for valid reasons, stay with me), viticulture, reading some of the more boring classics, and cryptocurrency.
04.02.2026 16:19 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Something I think about a lot for some reason: there are a handful of topics/skills that many (NOT ALL) people learn because the social pain of admitting ignorance is higher than the personal pain of learning. Call it performative understanding or whatever.
