Erdogan has replaced the elected mayors of Tunceli and Ovacık—representing the DEM Party and CHP—with government-appointed trustees. Ankara's logic remains the same: co-opt, discipline and divide the opposition.

It sounds like he might have listened to James Jeffrey, who in his recent interview with Al-Monitor said - if I recall correctly - that the US withdrawal from N.Syria would create security vacuums, which would not be good for Turkey.
