✨ The Wonders of Alt Text! ✨
A kind tip as we start the year ~ below are a few reasons why you should add alt text to your image posts:
- It enhances the accessibility of your posts
- Bluesky's search reads your alt text, increasing reach
- Some users avoid interacting with posts missing alt text
An image of Bluesky's Accessibility settings screen. Below the Accessibility label, there is an Alt text section with two individual checkbox options, both of which can be selected: 1. Require alt text before posting 2. Display larger alt text badges The picture shows the first option being checked while the second option is not checked.
In the past, I haven't always remembered alt text myself, but I always tried to. Thankfully, I learned Bluesky has a way to prevent me forgetting ever again!
Under "Settings" and then "Accessibility" you can find an option which will prevent you from posting an image without first adding alt text!
