Det är inte helt ovanligt att unga forskare inte ser vad som egentligen är de intressanta forskningsresultaten i en mycket väl genomförd studie. Detta då erfarenheten av alternativa fält och perspektiv saknas.

Jag håller helt med, systemet tvingar fram smala forskarbanor. Min upplevelse är att de yngre forskare jag handleder är så oerhört mycket skarpare än vad jag är, inte minst metodologiskt, men samtidigt är de ofta mycket smalare än vad jag var i den åldern.

Jag tillhörde nog den sista generationen som ramlade runt och som kunnat byta forskningsfält mellan nyckelfaser och ändå få medel…

Det paradoxala med att diskutera tur bland yngre forskare är att de just jobbar så hårt för att minimera slumpen. En stor del av min roll handlar nu om att hjälpa till med att karriärplanera och instrumentellt göra rätt..

Det fanns ingen konkurrens om internationella post docs inom samhällsvetenskap. Det fanns gott om lektorat när jag kom tillbaka från min post doc, jag tillhörde den sista generationen som kunde befordras till professur osv…

Spännande! Jag har funderat en hel del på turens roll i min egen karriär- där jag i mycket sett den som generationell tur (eller orättvisa om du vill). Detta kopplat både till demografi och hårdare konkurrens om medel.
