They changed the rule for Ohtani (though I'm glad they did, because he is awesome).

the party now cared more about climate change and various academic fixations than cheap energy and good-paying jobs.

This right here, this exact sentence, is THE problem in American political journalism.

The IRA *was* cheap energy and good jobs! That was the whole bill! Democrats did precisely what political pundits are telling them to do and the pundits just ignore it.

WELL HOW ABOUT THAT

"A millionaire levy in Massachusetts has generated $3 billion more in revenue than expected without forcing significant high-profile departures from the state."

All these guys love cyberpunk novels and movies where people say things like "information is power," and they took the lesson to heart.

Tech oligarchs didn't takeover WaPo, the LA Times, CBS News, Twitter, etc. (maybe TikTok soon) because they love journalism, or even because they want to make money from them. I'm not really sure how to build a functioning alternative information environment (I guess BlueSky is something, for now).

Honestly in some ways this is the epitome of this administration. This is a government of podcasters and TV presenters led by a reality TV star who doesn't actually want to govern, he just wants to create *content*

I visited the apartment building ICE raided on Tuesday today. Story to come, but you can walk right in. Half of the apartments have no doors on them. Children's stuff abandoned in some flats. *Citizen* residents told me they were arrested and held for hours in zipties. This is America

We laugh at this shit -- I mean, how can you not? -- but it's serious: these guys want to infuse reactionary thinking into AI and then infuse AI into every nook & cranny of American life. They can't win the argument so they are trying to blunt-force their views onto us with money & power.

We're witnessing the most aggressive, fanatical crackdown on free speech in my lifetime. The speed and breadth of government censorship and private sector and nonprofit capitulation has been astonishing. As has the lack of urgency/silence from people who've long claimed to care about this stuff.

Certainly, wealth will all "trickle down" to help people meet those needs. It is a very new and way of thinking about political economy.

As an objective pundit, I think that culture and politics need cater to your fears rather than marginalize your voice because you, sir, are the real America.

A decade ago, the Heritage Foundation went full meltdown about how Obama was an imperial president when he had issued about the same number of executive orders -- though he had reached it after six years, not six months.

It’s outrageous that Sec. Kennedy is trying to fire the CDC Director β€” after only a few weeks on the job β€” for her commitment to public health & vaccines.

The Sen. HELP Committee must hold a hearing with Kennedy & the CDC Director as soon as possible.

Vaccines save lives. Period.

Cost of Trump's D.C. Occupation: $1.1M per day.

Cost to operate public housing for D.C.'s entire homeless population: $169,226 per day.

It's not about what this country can or can’t afford.

It’s about priorities.

I don't understand why we should look at HHS in isolation from the rest of the administration. If you're some MAHA person who is worried about food dyes and thimerosal in a small percentage of vaccines, shouldn't you be even more worried about the EPA rolling back rules on PFAs in drinking water?

They'd rather have authoritarianism than a small part of their wealth taxed (even though those taxes build a state and society that have allowed them to achieve unprecedented riches and wealth inequality).
