Spanish PM Pedro SΓ‘nchez on Iran: β€œSpain is against this disaster. Because we understand that governments are here to improve people's lives, to provide solutions to problems, not to make people's lives worse.

Hey #ABC730
#ABC tv
You forgot to mention Mad F Witches who campaigned very hard and very successfully to get advertisers to dump Kyle Sandilands.
#MFW
They contacted advertisers to make sure they knew about the grubby things he was saying on air.
Good riddance to him. I hope he is gone forever

Last July, Anthropic agreed to ink a $200 million contract with the Pentagon, allowing the department broad-based use of its Claude model as the two prospective partners gradually worked out the final terms of engagement. Those were supposed to get etched last weekβ€”only for Anthropic to undergo a decisive test for its oft-professed ethical boundaries.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth demanded that his team be allowed to deploy Claude’s software in whatever manner they deemed pertinent, including applications for domestic surveillance and fully autonomous weaponry, which were β€œred lines” for Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei. On Friday afternoon, President Donald Trump ordered a six-month phaseout of all uses of Claude at the federal level. Hegseth then designated Anthropic a supply-chain risk to national security, all but forbidding any military contractors from doing future business with the company. A federal contract was subsequently bestowed upon Anthropic rival OpenAI, which unconvincingly claimed that it would try to safeguard tools like ChatGPT from use in population surveillance and autonomous weapons.

The fallout for Anthropic has been remarkable. It’s the first-ever American company to be deemed a supply-chain risk, which means it’s already lost several users across the federal government. But something even stranger emerged in the aftermath: a lotta liberal goodwill. Social media campaigners encouraged their followers, even the A.I. skeptics, to download Claude en masse. Extremely online observers came up with bizarre metaphors to characterize Anthropic’s heroism, and pushed Claude to the top of the app-store charts over the weekend. By Monday morning, there was a Claude service outage that Anthropic attributed to β€œunprecedented demand” for its products. Even Sen. Brian Schatz and Katy Perry got in on the whole thing. (The fact that American commandos had still used Claude to plan the Saturday strikes on Iran did not appear to faze many of these folks.) Meanwhil…

Frost noting (in a round about sort of way) the UK can't have a foreign policy independent of the US

And as for Frost saying that regardless of what side of the debate people are on no-one likes seeing their leader being criticised publicly. What about their leader being killed?

Billions in profits, silence on tax: Adani’s Australian enigma An advertising blitz claims mining taxes help pay for our essential services but it appears we taxpayers are paying millions of dollars to help coal miner Adani make profits.

In the last financial year, the company's income was $1.27 billion β€” that's $1,274,681,000 in figures. It paid company tax of $0. That's zero. Nothing. Nil. Nought.

If I was @zackpolanski.bsky.social, I would be pointing out to the BBC that whatever model they use to justify giving Farage & his boot-lickers season tickets for every BBC show under the sun must surely now treat Green Party politicians in exactly the same way. Australia’s shameless support for the US attack on Iran makes us gullible, duplicitous, or both For Anthony Albanese – as well as Mark Carney and Keir Starmer – to go along with Trump and Netanyahu’s cynical ploy negates any sense of moral authority we possess – a catastrophe for the rules-based order.
