I also saw "Los Domingos", which premiered in Spain before. Worth all the praise it has received so far. Amazing film that treats each of its characters and the audience with utmost respect. The pinnacle of filmmaking! Great cast of industry veterans and one of the best acting debuts I've ever seen.

Yesterday at the Rotterdam Film Festival I saw "In This Together", a short documentary by Lisette Olsthoorn in which three Uber drivers re-enact a confrontation they had with Uber about their inhumane treatment of drivers. It's very creative, empathic and to the point. My fave so far.

Afterwards we saw the opening film "A Providência e a Guitarra", an absurdist music comedy from Portugal. Reception seems very mixed so far, but I connected with the jokes and songs and liked all the commentary it delivered on social and political issues.

We kicked off this year's Rotterdam Film Festival with "Badak", which sets itself apart in the slowly overcrowding CODA subgenre with its deeply rooted Malaysian setting and a look into the underground hip-hop scene of Kuala Lumpur. Impressed by her rapping and glad the drama was not too cliché.

As I end the year I checked my stats on #Letterboxd and like how on the theatrical posters of both my first film of the year and the last film there is a lady looking up into the sky.
I also close 2025 with "House of Hope". Here is hoping for a better 2026 for Palestine and Palestinians.
I dreamed that me and two friends were living on the streets, making money by busking with different percussion instruments and various other side hustles.
And every day we would always wind down at the same round table in a square and have kebabs delivered to us by waiters with cloches.

Found myself explaining to a Gen Z'er that 15-20 years ago social media used to be more social, where you connect and interact with people you know.
Now it's just bots talking with each other. And wading through seas of content from random people/bots chosen by algorithms until you've had enough.
Recommended reading about how LLM's make our brains lazier and weaken critical thinking and "can encourage passive consumption of information, which may lead to superficial engagement, weakened critical thinking skills, less deep understanding of the materials, and less long-term memory formation."

When UK game studio Bits Studios was working on T2 on Game Boy, film studio Carolco would repeatedly say that Sarah's bangs needed to be bigger. Bits Studios did not know that "bangs" means fringe in US English and thought they were referring to her boobs. So they kept enlarging them.

A couple of weeks ago, OpenAI released their browser ChatGPT Atlas. I believe we are not ready for that yet, especially with how the majority of internet users still carelessly handle their passwords.

The new feature in Proton Mail highlighted. In the compose e-mail screen an image is being inserted, which now includes an option tickbox with the label "Remove metadata".
Proton Mail now allows you to remove the metadata from images you add to an email, either inline or as an attachment.
This is a great feature and removes the effort I need to do to remove the metadata manually before sharing. Now if only Bluesky would add such a feature too...
I see a Steam Deck in the train occasionally, but more often during flights.
