she/her. Cantor. Queer. Wife. Mama. American living & working in London. Strong opinions about pizza, bagels, & pizza bagels. (All three are better in New York.) Probably writing & thinking about music, motherhood, and makeup.

16.02.2025 07:59 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A toddler stands silhouetted against a floor-to-ceiling balcony door. He is holding and drinking from a sippy cup. Outside the door, beyond the balcony and its railings, is the hazy blue-grey intersection of sky and sea.
We are in Brighton for a little weekend getaway. It has been so valuable to not need to think about work/life logistics and instead to just hang out in this beautiful seaside super queer town, seeing everything through the wide eyes of our 19 month old little ginger man. Needed this escape.
16.02.2025 04:58 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The stubborn American in me got angry at what I perceived as British nonchalance. But after a few days, and after treating my symptoms at home, I realized how conditioned Iβve become to the American healthcare system. And how financially beneficial it is for Americans to see doctors so often. >>
17.12.2024 20:41 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Iβm just getting over a nasty upper respiratory infection, and I got very grumpy with my wife when she told me that no matter how sick I feel, my GP probably wouldnβt take me very seriously if Iβd only been sick for 3 or 4 days. They would just send me home and tell me to rest and hydrate. >>

26.11.2024 13:46 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I donβt have anything particularly groundbreaking to say. I think I just wanted to reflect into the echo chamber about how it is that we got here again. I canβt really call this country home anymore, because I donβt really recognize it anymore. And that saddens and scares me.
26.11.2024 13:36 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0America has spoken loud and clear, and Iβve heard the message, and it scares me. This isnβt just about the policies that will impact us if we ever decide to live here again. Itβs also about the conditions that led to that man ending up back in the White House. The vacuum into which he stepped.
26.11.2024 13:33 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It feels different, though, being here in the wake of the recent election. I am no longer comforted by the fact that Nashville is liberal. That doesnβt make it feel safer for me and my family. There is a discomfort bordering on fear lingering in the back of my mind. I am hyper-vigilant.
26.11.2024 13:25 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The thing about Nashville, aside from its country music lore and Honkytonk tourism, is that itβs a liberal city in a conservative state, and there is a surprising number of East Coast transplants who have recently decided to move here. In Nashville, you forget, sometimes, that you are in Tennessee.
26.11.2024 13:22 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0When they announced they were going to move, I was upset and skeptical. New York to Nashville seemed like the biggest culture shock, especially for my grandmother, and Iβd be lying if I said I didnβt also have lingering fears about my family relocating to a red state.
26.11.2024 13:19 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0When I moved to London, there was no logical place my parents could relocate so that they could be equally close to both of their daughters. So they moved to Nashville, and they brought my grandmother with them. At the time she was 88, and she had never lived anywhere but New York in all her life.
26.11.2024 13:17 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0For context, my sister is a lawyer who specializes in combating human trafficking. She does extraordinary work, and unfortunately, there is a lot of work to be done on this issue here in Nashville. It made sense for her and for her military husband to settle here. They love their lives here.

25.12.2023 01:01 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Thinking about this time last year: Christmas Eve and wishing so badly that I could have Camembert on crusty bread and a cold glass of Baileyβs. I had both today while my baby boy giggled and wiggled nearby in his elf onesie. Iβve never been more baffled by the passing of time than I am as a mother.
