(2/2) Sakina devised novel ways, relying in part on Large Language Models and other ML techniques, to predict, classify (according to root causes), and automatically fix flaky test cases. Since flaky tests are such an acute problem in many industrial contexts, this topic is particularly important

(1/2) Sakina Fatima just passed her PhD defense at the University of Ottawa, receiving highly positive feedback from the evaluation committee. Title: "Detection, Categorization, and Repair of Flaky Tests using Large Language Models"

(2/2) His work covers: (1) At design time, identify combinations of learned component outputs and operational contexts that could lead to (system-level) hazards, (2) At runtime, predict learned component outputs that can lead to system hazard, given its operational context.

(1/2) Sepehr Sharifi successfully defended, with flying colors, his PhD thesis at @uottawa.bsky.social entitled:

"Safer Learning-enabled Autonomous Systems".

Very important topic as, increasingly, safety-critical systems attempt to make use of AI.

(2/2) This is particularly important in the context of continuous integration. She relied on evolutionary computing and Large Language Models, among other things.

(1/2) Rongqi Pan successfully defended her PhD thesis (at
uottawa) entitled: "Black-box Test Suite Minimization". The work is on minimizing system test suites without relying on the analysis of the system production code, which is often not possible or cannot scale.

Amirhossein Zolfagharian just successfully defended, with much praise from the examiners, his PhD thesis: "Safety and Reliability of Deep Reinforcement Learning§ Agents through Testing and Safety Monitoring". His thesis was nominated for an award!
