The Trump administration has intensified threats of armed federal forces in Oregon. Sen. Majority Leader Kayse Jama said, in part:

β€œFederal aggression violates our rights; interferes with local, trusted law enforcement duties; and drains taxpayer resources that could truly serve Oregon’s people."

The Senate is set to take up transportation funding bills at the end of the month, and support from cities and counties across the state is strong.

"There is no acceptable role for violence in politics. It is painful to imagine the loss Charlie Kirk's family is feeling today...Everyone has a part in maintaining peaceful political systems, and I challenge all Oregonians to strengthen their commitment to that ideal."

Students are back in the swing of the school year. Oregon lawmakers this year strengthened education in our state, with 2025 bills increasing funding, setting accountability standards, and protecting local decisions on textbooks. Read more under "Education and Children": bit.ly/2025-wins

The Senate will meet Sept. 17 to honor a crucial responsibility: prevent serious, avoidable harm on Oregon roads. Especially with the federal government destabilizing public services, Oregon can't risk the consequences of inaction: unplowed passes, deteriorating roads, or unsteady bridges. #orleg

Every Oregonian deserves a safe way to get where they need to go. Today we're considering a transportation funding proposal that invests in keeping our roads and bridges safe, stabilizing local transit, and maintaining services like pothole repair and snow plowing that keep us moving. #orpol #orleg

New analysis says the Trump budget will cost Oregon over $800 million by the end of '27, jeopardizing the state budget for crucial programs. Here's how Senate Democratic leaders see the situation: Sen. Jama bit.ly/Jama-forecast | Sen. Wagner bit.ly/Wagner-forecast

More than 70K Oregon households had utilities cut off last year because they could not afford to pay. 2025 state legislation demanded better of investor-owned gas and electric companies, and the new laws were signed in a ceremony yesterday. OPB has the story here: bit.ly/opb-signing #orpol #orleg

Oregon's environment makes our state exceptional, and Oregon Senate Democrats this year acted to protect it: keeping "forever chemicals" out of firefighting foam, cutting out plastic bags at checkout, and protecting beavers in spots where they help improve water quality. Oregon rivers and lakes are refreshing in hot weather, but they also can be deadly. Most drowning deaths in Oregon are in natural bodies of water. Borrow a life jacket if you don't have one. The state Marine Board has a map of life jacket loaner stations near waterways: bit.ly/loaner-stations

Deferred maintenance is a public safety issue. We already see the effects of underfunded infrastructure: crumbling pavement, delayed plowing, and canceled bus routes. The transportation funding proposal we’re taking up in a special session starting Aug. 29 handles the problems before they get worse.

Amid rising aggression against immigrant communities, a new Oregon law bars landlords from getting or reporting the immigration status of tenants. Under SB 599, they can require ID and credit checks, but not documents showing immigration status. It passed the Senate in March in a bipartisan vote.

Oregon will lose $15 billion in federal spending over 6 years because of the Republican budget bill.

Sen. Majority Leader Kayse Jama had this to say:
β€œThese numbers show the president’s contempt for the people he should be serving...He is ransacking programs to give tax cuts to the very rich."

Oregon defends everyone’s right to be who they are and live with dignity. The Trump administration is trying to erode rights for transgender people, but a 2023 state law protects Oregonians.

The Republican federal budget bill passed in July is set to raise utility bills. It killed investments that helped make clean energy cheaper and will drive prices up. But new laws here should help Oregon. HB 3179 and SB 688 made it harder for corporate-owned utilities to just pass costs on to you.

Early numbers are in and the Trump budget bill may mean hardship for Oregonians. This massive federal legislation helps rich people the most, and will tighten state resources for education, wildfire response, and more. It's a sign that hard decisions on public spending are ahead bit.ly/Trump-budget

A new resource catalogs more than 200 bills passed in the 2025 session that help make life better in Oregon: bit.ly/2025-wins.

More than 3,000 bills were introduced in 2025, and 702 passed the House and Senate. 93 percent of the time a bill passed, it had both Democratic and Republican support.
