What caused the Great Depression?

Most people would say the stock market crash of 1929. That was probably the No. 1 factor, but the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act of 1930 made it worse. The act raised tariffs on over 20,000 imported goods by almost 60%. /1

It seems tied to being told their beliefs are incorrect. They firmly believe their (willful) ignorance is equivalent to evidence and science. They think being wrong equates being weak.
