My understanding is that these projections are based on policies submitted via countries’ NDCs under the Paris Agreement and thus don’t reflect the most recent policy developments. And no, the IPCC AR6 has above 4C warming as worst case, 2.7C is β€œexpected” based on 23/24 policies.

We've reached 1.5Β°C global warming.
With current policies, we're heading for a catastrophic 2.7Β°C warming.
A new review paper in Science shows: this would change the Arctic 'beyond recognition', with knock-on effects (like rising seas) around the world. 🌊

It is a while since I posted this, but just your annual reminder that Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) will never scale to compensate all emissions (& it would be a ludicrously expensive alternative to reductions).

If you like your money, then the razor-sharp focus would be on reducing emissions!

Global biodiversity offsetting doesn’t work – keep schemes local, say experts Voluntary standards proposed at Cop16 focus on local like-for-like habitat projects, while critics call the issue a β€˜distraction’

β€œMy main concern about biodiversity credits is not that they’re harmful – they can’t do much harm if not many people buy them. My main concern is the way they steal the political discourse & political capital away from more important & impactful solutions.” Sophus zu Ermgassen, University of Oxford

Biodiversity is declining, yet we have limited knowledge about how that affects human well-being. My work linking bats, insecticide use, and human infant health is out today in Science (science.org/doi/10.1126/science.adg0344), and tells a complex story about how those are connected.
