A new ‘hypertropical’ climate is emerging in the Amazon - Berkeley News Unprecedented hot drought conditions are becoming more common, exposing trees to deadly stress and reducing the region’s ability to absorb anthropogenic carbon dioxide.

This looks like a most interesting PhD program for e.g. econ students with climate interests.

We love to say "costs fall X% every time capacity doubles." This paper looks at 87 technologies and says: actually, no. Past learning rates are not reliable predictors of future learning.

Key findings from one of the largest research programs on land-based carbon removals out now! I am proud to have played a tiny role in this huge, interdisciplinary and collaborative effort, with so many brilliant researchers.

After Spain's blackout, critics blamed renewable energy. It's part of a bigger attack When millions lost power in Spain and Portugal this spring, some were quick to blame too much solar and wind power. That wasn't the cause, but the misinformation had an impact.

This story was inspired by a conversation with a fossil fuel exec in Paris a few days after the big outage in Spain. He blamed too much renewable energy as the cause.

Was that really it? Turns out: No.

Cool new AER paper uses data from Clean Air Act offset markets to assess the efficiency of air pollution regulation. The analysis finds that marginal benefits of abatement exceed mean offset prices more than ten-fold, across most regions and pollutants.
