It's all performative. They lie about everything, even their true religious beliefs. If there were no cameras around to take photos of them "praying," I can only think of one reason for them to be on their knees.

Parents who want their children to learn lessons that schools are unable to teach, particularly religious lessons that the First Amendment restricts, are free to teach those lessons to their children at home. But their rights didn't trump the parental rights of others. Until yesterday, at least.

5. Isolation leads to poor academic performance, more inattention in class, more behavioral issues, and students feel a lesser connection to their learning. This is especially problematic for LGBTQIA+ students, since they are frequently "othered," harassed, and bullied for who they are.

4. Every student should feel a sense of belonging in their school. When one set of parents demands that the curriculum only affirm a specific subset of students, ignoring other subsets, there can be no sense of belonging. The clear message is that those students are less valued by their school.

3. One was a story about a girl whose favorite uncle was getting married to his male partner. The story was about love and family dynamics, and in no way explicit. All the selected stories were age-appropriate and recommended by education and children's literature experts.

2. The school district, after a very careful literature review, and with the intent to ensure that no student was denied the ability to see themselves reflected in, and be affirmed by, the stories they were reading or hearing, selected a short list of stories that were benign.

1. The issue in the case before the Court was that there were numerous parent demands to opt out of various aspects they found offensive, making it impossible for the school district to teach virtually any curriculum. The district had to call a halt to opt-outs, and so parents sued.

Well, the Speaker and Trump say it is unconstitutional. Most lawyers I know, including myself, disagree. But, given the current makeup of SCOTUS, let's see how quick they jump to their Masters' command.
