The Republican dream has been to dismantle the modern federal government. This has been true since the 1930s. And now, finally, it will happen. We will return to a stripped-down US government, incapable of legislating and executing what Democrats think of as effective governance.

People are already dying. We would know more, but unfortunately our national media no longer have the financial wherewithal to cover this international story.

The reason Biden and the Democrats failed is fundamental: They were unable to move the Overton Window back toward democracy. Trump and MAGA need to be demonized in the same way Communism has been. They had four years to do it and utterly failed.

Biden's failure to push for Ukrainian NATO membership looms large. For all the talk of defending democracy, the normalcy of his policies, both domestic and foreign, represented a failure of imagination regarding Trump and MAGA fascism.

Today is the saddest day for American foreign policy in history Trump and Vance's treatment of Zelensky was a truly disgusting, un-American gag fest, We are led by two traitors who are betraying the cause of freedom.

So, in our new Amerika, the US is no longer the good guy. All those Hollywood tropes are out the window. No more dopey "Mr. President, we can save the day" plotlines.

5- NO MORE CORRUPTION. A 13 member Supreme Court. No more electoral college. No billionaire money in our elections. No more sleazeball artists in Congress making money off insider trading.

4- GOVERNMENT FOR REGULAR PEOPLE. No more half measures from Democrats that don’t address the challenge. Unleash American capitalism to build 5 million new homes. Launch an employee-owned company movement to replace rape-and-pillage fintech capitalism. No more health insurance ripoffs. Fair wages!

3- NO MORE BILLIONAIRES RUINING OUR COUNTRY. No more billionaire money in our elections. Restore the 94% tax rate on the uber-wealthy. Fair taxes and benefits for everyone else. And no more corrupt, money-stealing monopolies: Verizon, Comcast, Home Depot, Google, Microsoft…break them all up.

2- STAND FOR FREEDOM. No more weakness, licking Putin’s boots. No more stupid, useless hatred here at home. Restore secure immigration and put our country on a path to growth and prosperity.

1- We need a new counter-fascist movement, and it must have clear demands. To start: NO FASCISM. Republicans are the Nazis of our time. These un-American sleazeballs, their party, and their fellow travelers belong in the dustbin of history, never to return.

6- As for the rest of us, we’re getting pretty damned angry, which is good. We will oppose this fascism head-on in social media, call out public officials every day, and stop this shit cold.

5. And since it’s a coup, Senators and Representatives need to fucking act like it. Stop every appointment, slow down every vote, and call out your Republican colleagues and Trump for this un-American fascist takeover. SLOW THIS THING DOWN.

4- What do we do to slow this down or reverse it? First, we need to call out Republicans as the fascist party. SAY IT OUT LOUD. No more pretending that we can function with one “normal” party.

3- It’s a coup. We are in the middle of an authoritarian takeover. Most Americans think a coup involves guns and blood. That’s not the case. The violence comes later: see Orban, Erdogan, or even Putin.

2- Our political leaders in Washington have coddled oligarchs and corporations for decades. This corruption has hurt all Americans, except for the billionaires. And it enabled the coup we all now enduring.

3- It’s a coup. We are in the middle of an authoritarian takeover. Most Americans think a coup involves guns and blood. Orban, Erdogan, Putin: The blood comes later, when it’s easier to stomp on the last gasps of the opposition.

1- I am pro-liberal democracy, through and through. I believe in pluralism, democracy, human rights for all, and free market economics. I believe in strong alliances with other democracies, and I am opposed to fascist and communist dictators and authoritarians, full stop.

6/ This last is important to recognize: by the time a counter-movement is organized and effective in slowing or halting the coup, so much will have been destroyed that it will be impossible to put things back together the same way. It's already baked in, difficult as it is to comprehend.

5/ At some point, there will be a popular counter-movement to the coup. I am concerned with what this movement will call for. It will fail if the movement leadership calls for restoring the status quo ante. Already, there is no turning back.

4/ Our media (writ large, with notable exceptions) is unwilling to talk in terms that matter about what is happening. When is a coup a coup, and when are the victims of the coup willing to call it out for what it is? I do not know what it will take, but their lassitude is appalling.

3/ Our media cannot adequately describe the vast scope and impact of the coup. This is not their fault (much is hidden), but they are seemingly incapable of framing what is happening correctly, and they are not calling out the coup for what it is.

2/ Our fascist counterrevolutionary coup leaders are permanently destroying America's ability to lead internationally, laser-focused on eliminating the modern state, and bent on destroying their opposition's livelihood and safety. They are moving more rapidly than any other coup in history.

The machinery of the modern state is already broken, with more to come in the next month, long before a counter movement can be organized and effective. The destruction is so vast that it will not be possible to return to the status quo ante.

The U.S. is now in mid-coup. The billionaire Visigoths ransacking the capital are pleased as punch with their progress, as the American people, their media, and their political opponents wring their hands.
