the internet loves to give modern pokemon shit for its graphics, but by refusing to participate in the AAA graphics arms race, they have unambigiously dominated the culture. they won.

Thunderbolt, body slam, rock slide, ice beam and psychic being so easily available feels so good.

Y'know, I like the Johto games more than the Kanto games but I like planning teams and routes in Kanto a lot more. Koga being the only load bearing gym leader in the midgame means you have so much freedom with how you build your team and what you tackle first and last.

Yeah I think being able to play as leaf and liking the sprites more are perfectly valid reasons to prefer frlg. I just find that people tend to argue in its favor by putting gen 1 down rather than propping frlg up.

I'm not a particularly crazy person about gen 1 but most arguments in favor of frlg kinda make it clear it's gen 1 for people who don't like gen 1.

Every argument I've ever seen in favor of frlg over rby always devolves to "oooooh the gen 1 quirksss, focus energy and rage (moves I never use) don't work! The game is unplayable!"

You get the first two earlier and they're both better but Farfetch'd and Matthis are the cooler choices.

If we were to compare pokemon to fire emblem units. Pidgey and Spearow are Cain and Abel while Farfetch'd is Matthis.

Which is funny to think about lol, the numbers are part of why the fight is so exciting but it also means the fight just goes down to grinding levels.

That's fair, I kinda excuse that because the hype of that fight is it being against a former protagonist and the high level itself, even if it makes it less fun to engage with.

I feel like it's more nuzlocke popularity/use a full team of 6 popularity/desire to always be at the same level as bosses than ppl really struggling with Lance.
