Baker & Taylor appears to be shutting down. A post on the r/libraries subreddit from an employee of B&T breaks the news and there appear to be other employees in the comments confirming the situation.

Decided to rewatch Office Space (1999), and oh boy...still too accurate and got triggered. Documentary. lol the politics of the corporate world not that far from the politics of public libraries. May or may not get ideas πŸ€”πŸ€”πŸ”₯πŸ”₯🀣

While Goodall received her PhD in the 1960s, it was not until the 2000s that Ugandan Emily Otali became the first African woman to complete a PhD on chimpanzee behavior. The networks that facilitated European and North Americans researchers impeded the same opportunities for Africans (9/10)

What the narrative leaves out is the contributions of the local Tanzanians who assisted and facilitated Goodall's early research, as well as preceding and concurrent research. Nat Geo created a story about a lone white woman alone with chimpanzees, erasing the Africans that were beside her (3/10)

White westerners think resistance is some disney or hollywood series. It is not. You either fight tooth and nail, or the occupation will murder you and your whole family! When white people resist occupation "by any means necessary", then it's okay. But when nonwhite people do it, they're "evil."

Early last semester, Droubi said, students began approaching Cheyfitz with complaints that a graduate student in the β€œGaza, Indigeneity, Resistance” class appeared to be recording them, possibly to β€œgather their names and comments” and intimidate them. β€œWe believe that a student came to the course for the sole reason of surveilling and potentially harming students in the class,” Droubi said. β€œThat ended up proving itself to be true because multiple students came forward and shared their concerns with Professor Cheyfitz.” Cheyfitz said one Palestinian student quit the class after telling him she felt upset and frightened.

According to Cheyfitz, the graduate student often steered conversations away from the assigned readingsβ€”which at that point mostly focused on definitions of genocide and international law on Indigenous rightsβ€”to defend Israel’s conduct in the war in Gaza and argue with others in the class. β€œHe clearly had not done the readings,” Cheyfitz said. β€œIt was disruptive.”

Cheyfitz said he met with the graduate student in late January and spoke to him about concerns from his classmates. During the conversation, he asked the graduate student to drop the course, and by the next class, he did, Cheyfitz said. The graduate student, Oren Renard, a PhD candidate in computer science whose identity was confirmed by other students in the class, previously served in Israel’s elite military surveillance agency, Unit 8200, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Cornell is cancelling a distinguished professor's classes on Gaza and suspending him because of the complaints of a student who previously served in Israel's military surveillance agency and was literally recording the comments of other students in class and deliberately derailing discussion.
