Bright red hips (berries) against a back drop of bright green.
Delicate white blossom against a tangle of branches
Orange umbrella of berries against a wispy beige background.
Acid green furry lichen covering a tree trunk and branches.
I’m back in Biggleswade. I’m missing the ocean and the hills. But I’m finding joy in the bright berries, lichen and blossom. I hope you’re having a bright and colourful weekend.

I’ve not literally gone fishing (though I’d not say no to a trip out sea fishing one day.) But for my last few days in Cornwall I’m going to have a social media break.
I’ll see you all again back in Biggleswade in a few days!

A large art work on a side street showing townsfolk who took part in hurling. The silver ball is shown and men scrumming for it. There are daffodils and snowdrops and the mile markers for each goal.
A plaque in the window of an old red phone box showing a town dignitary on a ladder starting the hurling. There’s a picture of the ball and the town thronged with people. Text explains that the earliest record for the custom is from 1594
More photographs from the past of hurling including the starter on a ladder.
News paper clippings and photos in the phone box showing the hurling ball and the troughs used as goals.
Happy shrove Tuesday! Not just a day of pancake indulgence but witch listening at Conger Hill, Toddington (see the Bedfordshire witches episode to know more.)
Here in Cornwall St Columb Major has its own 500 year old Hurling tradition. A boisterous ball game.
Will you be celebrating today?

A tree stretches its twisted branches out over a large ditch. In the far right hand corner of the image is a blurred distant hillside. The sky is half cloud and half blue.
We went inland today to the iron age fort of Castle an Dinas. Legendary home to King Arthur’s mum, and once castle to the Duke’s of Cornwall.
Ghostly armies have been seen there, and some very dark deeds haunt its past.
This tree in particular was stunning.

A mottled sandy coloured stone in the shape of a ghost with round eyes and mouth. He’s on a wall with a blurred background of waves crashing on a beach and blue sky.
A ghost shaped sandy coloured pebble with round eyes and moth on a railing. In the background is an island attached to land by a thin bridge and blue sea and sky.
Meet Robin Hagstone, a ghost shaped pebble found on Brighton beach by my friend Tess (composer of much witw music and theme.) She gave him eyes and mouth and he’s currently enjoying Newquay. I can’t wait to show him the sights of Biggleswade. 👻

Waves crashing in on a sandy beach with a gull flying above. Theres a surfer on the beach and in the distance a headland of houses and a large hotel on the top. The sky is mottled cloud.
Happy Friday 13th! Now I’m not superstitious about Friday 13th, I don’t think it’s unlucky. (in fact I’m getting a new tattoo today for good luck.)
I’m curious do you have any unusual superstitions?
I always think it’s a good omen to see a rainbow 🌈

A plume of sea spray rushing from a hole in the cliffs. The spray resembles spirits even down to having faces! The cliffs are jagged and the water below foamy. In the distance is a grey green sea.
Ghosts fleeing a cave?
No it’s the Porth Island blow hole.
There’s some great pareidolia in the waves and sea spray.

I’m lucky we left before the mad drunkenness got out of hand. I was too young also to witness what was going on back in the mid 80s. I know by the mid 90s it could be very rough.
Apparently there’s only 2 night clubs now in town. Like it was in the 80s!

Looking down onto a small harbour with boats lined up. Above the harbour is headland and a white cottage. To the left is open sea
Looking among the coast land at Newquay all the way to Porth. There are rocks directly below and beach. A gull flying and specs on the sea that are surfers.
I headed over to the harbour side of Newquay earlier. I remember watching fireworks from here during Newquay 1900s week. It was such a great way to learn about the past. A festival of history.

Me smiling. My hair is swept off my face by the wind. Behind me is a turquoise sea.on the right is a rainbow.
In the foreground my field recorder. In the background a beach and sea including a big splash of surf on the opposite headland. The sky is cloud and blue sky.
A narrow channel between cliffs and a large chunk of rock at the end of the channel. The sea is blue and the sky has some clouds.
A large rock surrounded by turquoise sea and white surf. A rainbow emerges out of the sea. On the far right are large cliffs.
I’ve been out recording audio today. Fabulous views and more rainbows. I spent a lot of time mooching around the bronze and Iron Age site at Trevelgue head / Porth Island.

Blue ocean with a few surfers in the water. There is headland in the far left with a hotel lit in the sun.
A book bag with a tortoise carrying books on its back and Clemo Books written in black. Two books with gothic blue covers are on the bag.
A morning of reminiscing, fresh sea air and book buying at the brilliant Clemo Books. A small but perfectly stocked indie bookshop. It’s a hard recommend from me. Books bought: Phantoms of Kernow and 13 Cornish Ghost Stories. Also got tipped off about local ghosts. 👻

The sea (the channel) very close to the train track. The sun is reflecting off the water and the sky is mainly blue.
A body of water with cliffs on the opposite side. To the left there are boats. The sky is full of big clouds and some blue.
Looking down on. Town surrounded by green lichen covered trees. In the distance there is mist and the clouds are grey.
Some photos from my train journey today.

I’m on the train to Cornwall. I’m listening to a playlist of all my fave songs from when I lived there (late 80s) The Beastie Boys Fight for Right has just come on and wow what a banger! Reminds me of journeys to school!

A lake with winter trees either side. On the other side of the lake are more trees and lights from the road. The sky is grey cloud.
hellebores of a pale creamy green colour. The background is deep vermillion blurry leaves.
An old fashioned street lamp faintly aglow. Behind are grand buildings obscured by winter trees. The sky is grey.
St James’ Park was looking suitably spooky yesterday afternoon. No sign of the headless red lady, sadly.

Olie a man with dark hair and moustache, plays the guitar in a dark pub sitting at the bar.
Olie and Nat selfie. Olie has dark hair and eyes and is smiling. Nat has blonde hair and is smiling.

A cup of tea with steam curling off it. There’s a sunny window behind it with strange shapes in the hazy light made by the steam and sunshine.
I grabbed some lunch at Jones’ Coffee Shop and the steam from my green tea and sunlight created some cool ghostly shapes.

A fountain sculpture of Alice in Wonderland and water Lillys with green hedges behind.
Today I have mainly been writing about green ladies for a future episode of Weird in the Wade. Invariably assoicated with water, these green lady ghosts reminded me of the photograph I took of this delightlul green girl (Alice in Wonderland) at Petwood Hotel in Lincolnshire.
