Can DHS just write in a memo that none of have rights and that's that?

The best time to abolish DHS was before they created it, the second best time was any time over the last 22 years, the third best time is immediately

I mean, isn't this kind of reply prima facie evidence of bad faith, meaning there's absolutely no point in trying?

I think there's a really interesting phenomenon here of someone with absolutely no sincere commitments beyond pursuing his own advantage. I'm not sure if he's capable of 'belief' if that means a commitment to a matter of fact or principle that's taken to hold more or less objectively.

It's the best diagnosis of them that I've seen, and it's not really even close.

Oh look. A sensible and accessible solution.

It all makes sense if you read the Democratic party as a mechanism for serving the wishes of its major donors (who are also major donors to the Republican party).

We're seeing a massive institutional deportation and state violence apparatus being built and it honestly feels like people dont grasp the sheer scale of it and what already is in place. For every horrific video of masked feds kidnapping people there are so many people pushing paper to help.

Just read every word of this thread, then reread it and commit it to memory.

That last line, my god. I will never get over how many of my colleagues are petty sadists. It's grotesque and enraging.

So many own goals.
Once again: higher ed is one of our most successful exports. We export more higher ed to China than soybeans. And yet Trump and the mini-Trumps are deliberately destroying the quality of our product

the description of this alleged "conspiracy" is... flimsy? alarming? the work being done here is to float the argument that if six people at a protest are (allegedly) observed engaging in the same activity, this is now a "conspiracy"

I think it was @drfarls.bsky.social (apologies if I'm misremembering) who asked if we needed to be more worried about CBP or ICE, and several people in that thread said 'the answer is everyone, b/c they're going to use whoever they can.' This seems to be a case in point for that analysis.

Opinion | A Nazi Tattoo Exposes Democrats’ Greatest Weakness

Bouie is absolutely correct, this piece by @tressiemcphd.bsky.social is the only thing you need to read about Platner. It's also the single best and clearest thing I've read about what is and has been deeply wrong with the Democratic party for quite some time now. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/29/o...

29.10.2025 22:52 β€” πŸ‘ 6    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

God, thank you! Everyone’s talking like you can walk into any old parlor and get a fucking Nazi tattoo like it’s nothing.

I believe it is canon to follow any reference to BHL with 'Christ, this asshole!' If not, it should be.

I mean, if there were anything one could do to boost the cred of a Democratic candidate for office in the Chicago area in both the primary and the subsequent general election, this would seem to be it.

29.10.2025 17:48 β€” πŸ‘ 6    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I think Jacobin's long-standing, consistent anti-antifascism has hardly been a secret. But that position has mostly been implicit in their claims that "Trump isn't a fascist" & "We have to win back the white working class."

But I still think Platner's candidacy is a step over a line. It's overt now

29.10.2025 17:43 β€” πŸ‘ 4    πŸ” 2    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 1

Besides, it looks as if this faction and the self-described centrists (who produce weekly "reports" arguing for the accommodation of Right-wing positions) may be merging.

And a lot of Platner's defenders increasingly sound like they're in a cult when complaining of "powerful forces" against them.

29.10.2025 17:26 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Platner and his enthusiastic defenders β€” Sanders, Jacobin β€” are centrists. What may confuse some is that their bipartisanship isn't an inclination toward liberals but, instead, the far Right. Platner is the culmination, their ideal candidate. There are no horseshoes.

29.10.2025 17:14 β€” πŸ‘ 5    πŸ” 2    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I criticized Biden because he is a neoliberal genocidaire and lifelong supporter of the police state who played in big part in ushering in Trump both times. I criticize Trump because he's a fascist. Deciding whether or not either is demented is not my priority.

29.10.2025 16:14 β€” πŸ‘ 26    πŸ” 6    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

And then they stupidly assume the answer is running away from that stereotype instead of looking at what Democrats want, what the base wants and selling that to voters who are disillusioned with them

Spending my last full day in Joburg visiting with patients and staff of a clinic which is not an β€œAIDS clinic” but where 70 percent of patients are living with HIV, just one amongst many issues. Staff numbers, staff morale, and access to drugs & equipment have been SEVERELY hampered by USAID cuts.
