In 2016, a slow loris came to the Little Fireface Project. We rehabilitated and released her.
Ten years later, Xena is still in the forest and has raised 5+ offspring! 💗

They exposed the risks we could no longer ignore.
Because of them, release will not be the same.
Because of them, science will lead.
They were not lost in vain.
They changed the future of Bengal slow loris conservation.

Bengal slow lorises often move into edge communities to feed—this doesn’t mean they need help.
Translocation can cause stress, conflict and lower survival. Often the best response is monitoring, awareness and coexistence.
Rescue matters. So does leaving wildlife where it belongs.

Our new peer-reviewed study is live. We monitored 9 rescued Bengal slow lorises after their release in Bangladesh.
Only two individuals survived.
Our results show that for territorial, nocturnal primates, translocation carries significant mortality risk.
