Juliana Gleeson and Fayoza Yuldasheva, who wrote the brilliant foreword to the Kollontai book, made me aware of a queer communist artist collective in Bishkek, Kyrghyzstan, ShTAB (School of Theory and Activism Bishkek) whose 'Queer Communist Manifesto' (Манифест квир-коммунизма) is yet to be translated into English. A short taster: 'We understand queer not only as the erosion of standards of sex, gender, and sexuality, but on the whole as a challenge to traditional identity politics in its essentialist idiom, as a negation of gendered, ethnic, racial, and national borders. Queer and communism are mutually dependent and unavoidable concepts, names of a process of overcoming alienation.'
