A political trial is happening in front of our eyes. Ekrem İmamoğlu (@ekremimamoglu.com), the elected mayor of Istanbul who also happens to be the major contender in the next presidential elections, is on "trial." @ppfideas.bsky.social will help us better understand what's happening in Turkey.

ı am not aware of any new approaches, but there are novel readings of Mustafa Akdağ's theory by Cemal Kafadar.

As for the colonialism issue, I 💯agree with Sara Nur Yıldız, and the same should be argued with recent attempts to universalize and standardize slavery.

I wrote the entry on Sayyid Sharif-i Jurjani for EI3 Online and it has just been published. I am very grateful to the editors of EI3 at Brill. The article was supposed to be just 1000 words, but they accepted a significantly longer piece.

Sadly, the article is not open access, but you know the drill.

The objective of the article is to understand what Asia meant in specific historical contexts. As usual, I rely on my own sources as well, Timurid chronicles and manuscripts from Iran and Central Asia.

Bence arkadaş İngilizce düşünüp Türkçe yazıyor. It has a balance worth preserving/keeping. İngilizce o kadar kulağı tırmalamıyor.

Russian Archeological Institute of Constantinople (Русский археологический институт в Константинополе) 1894 - 1914, founded by the famous Byzantinist Fyodor Ivanovich Uspenskii. Wiki says it was founded in 1895.

I knew that it existed, but I didn’t know we were neighbors.

Rulers as Authors in the Islamic World "Rulers as Authors in the Islamic World" published on 31 Jan 2024 by Brill.

This is a valuable contribution, but the editors must have worked very hard in order to exclude Babur and Shah Ismail from the list.
