suggests that the manuscript of Yazdi's Muqaddima+Zafarnama. Papazyan's work was published in Tashkent in 1958, when they had access to both Tauer's excellent edition of Shami's ZN. So, why would these three scholars confuse Yazdi's Muqaddima with Shami's Zafarnama? I don't know.

Puzzle of the day: The manuscripts of Shami's Zafarnama is relatively rare. So, the Erivan manuscript discussed by A.D. Papazyan and Iu. Bregel is particularly important. HOWEVER, I bought the new catalog of Persian manuscript by Kostikyan in Erivan, and the description clearly+

Thank you so much. I will follow it from here. I vaguely remember now two books on the cipher tradition that I've seen when I tried to understand how the mu'amma worked.

التعمية في الشعر الشعبي اليمني من خلال طريقة (الدرسعية) | Albaydha University Journal

A quick question for my Arabist colleagues and literary scholars:

Could you refer me to an article/book on الدرسعية? I am aware of Ayman al-Shar'i's short article on the topic, but I wonder if there is a more comprehensive study. Thank you so much.

I usually don’t share dedications, but in this case I can’t resist. I’m too excited about this publication.

P.S.: Persephone friends, please note how Dr. Amirkhani writes my surname. This is what I call erudition. :)

by someone else over the centuries. It opens a new window to the history of political ideas, but also it will force us to take the context of political ideas more seriously. This is a grand opening to the Timurid studies in 2026 and it will make my life significantly easier.+

and Aristotelian conventions. As its title indicates, Qa'ini dedicated his work to Shahrukh b. Timur in 1417. The tricky part is this: The sole manuscript of the NS that comes from Shahrukh's library is in Vienna at the ÖNB and as far as I can see, it never circulated or used+

Jalal al-Din Qa'ini's Nasa'ih-i Shahrukhi was just published by the eminent Iranian colleague Ghulamriza Amirkhani. In my opinion, NS is one of the most, if not the most, significant late medieval political treatise. Its discussion of politics is outside of the earlier advice+

A political trial is happening in front of our eyes. Ekrem İmamoğlu (@ekremimamoglu.com), the elected mayor of Istanbul who also happens to be the major contender in the next presidential elections, is on "trial." @ppfideas.bsky.social will help us better understand what's happening in Turkey.

ı am not aware of any new approaches, but there are novel readings of Mustafa Akdağ's theory by Cemal Kafadar.

As for the colonialism issue, I 💯agree with Sara Nur Yıldız, and the same should be argued with recent attempts to universalize and standardize slavery.

I wrote the entry on Sayyid Sharif-i Jurjani for EI3 Online and it has just been published. I am very grateful to the editors of EI3 at Brill. The article was supposed to be just 1000 words, but they accepted a significantly longer piece.

The objective of the article is to understand what Asia meant in specific historical contexts. As usual, I rely on my own sources as well, Timurid chronicles and manuscripts from Iran and Central Asia.

Russian Archeological Institute of Constantinople (Русский археологический институт в Константинополе) 1894 - 1914, founded by the famous Byzantinist Fyodor Ivanovich Uspenskii. Wiki says it was founded in 1895.

I knew that it existed, but I didn’t know we were neighbors.

This is a valuable contribution, but the editors must have worked very hard in order to exclude Babur and Shah Ismail from the list.
