Fossil Fuel Subsidies Are a Violent Betrayal of the American People The U.S. government’s continued subsidies for the fossil fuel industry cost us billions of dollars every year, as well as our health, safety, and environment.

Just imagine what we could fund (schools! healthcare!) if we weren't subsidizing Big Oil and Gas and the destruction they cause.

Here are some inconvenient truths:

3⃣The GOP reconciliation package adds $4.5T to the national debt

In the Natural Resources Committee, we're asking Republicans to work with us on an organized, long-term clean energy transition.

House Republicans are trying to sell off our public lands to give handouts to big oil.

I’ll be voting no on that.

Yesterday, GOP leadership told their members *not to speak* during a 14-hour “debate” on their plan to sell off public lands to fund billionaire tax cuts. 🤫

They couldn’t defend it, they just voted for it.

That’s not leadership.

I just discovered that the Chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee traded stocks of oil and gas companies just as Republicans are about to pass a budget to benefit the very same companies.

The corruption is astounding.

Yesterday, I revealed the Chair of the Natural Resources Committee is trading oil & gas stocks right as we're considering a budget with unprecedented handouts to those very same oil & gas companies.

As Republicans try to profit off of the tax breaks they're giving to Big Oil, we're fighting back.

I came to Congress to steward our natural resources, have honest conversations even when we disagree, and uplift the voices of #MD03.

15 hours and nearly 100 amendments later, me and my Democratic colleagues continue to use every tool at our disposal to combat the Trump Administration's harmful policies – especially those that threaten the Chesapeake Bay and our state’s precious natural resources.

Everything about this Reconciliation bill in Natural Resources is a total lie. It’s bad for our:

We’re more than 8 hours into this Reconciliation markup in the House Natural Resources Committee and the GOP has completely stopped engaging on answering basic questions about their own bill.

We have never seen anything like it. It’s going to be a long night.

In an effort to conceal their scheme to sell off our public lands, House Republicans were ordered by their leadership not to debate or even speak during our 13-hour committee proceeding.

We have a moral imperative to address climate change, which will have enormous impacts on the future we leave behind for our kids and beyond.
