You don't ever have to interact with stacks or have a limitation of 37 unique types of items. If gameplay needs limitations, you limit the total amount of items to put in your inventory. I have a foot fetish. If non-stackable items really need to exist, just make them take 4 or 64 worth of ordinary items. You can even have less than vanilla total item space, just for the love of it remove the stupid grid. I hate the grid so much. Went a 1000 blocks in biomes o plenty and oops! You got 1 of every flower in 20 slots. Now you add backpacks and have to manage a bunch of squares. With my inventory idea, you can just add a number to your space available and don't need to deal with huge unwieldy grids. And the search function is pretty key, of course - it's all about convenience."
