More shocking than shitty BabiΕ‘ winning the Czech elections is the fact that the fully racist and fascist Okamura won about 8 percent.
04.10.2025 17:54 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0An excellent piece in the Guardian: People think they know what war is.
"Across Donbas communities, many people who could no longer live in their destroyed houses near the frontlines still returned whenever they could."

Thank you!!
28.09.2025 17:46 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0In terms of clothing, I will mostly use my cross-country gear and see how it goes. I am yet to decide on studded tires, and whether some cheaper options would suffice. Advice? π
28.09.2025 17:06 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This will be the first winter when I have decided to cycle to work on any day that is warmer than -25Β°C. I am genuinely excited to learn about my bike's behaviour and my body's.
28.09.2025 16:39 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Saturdays should be for watching Janja Garnbret and Oriane Bertone fight for gold until the last hold! What a treat!

I would add that Rutherford is the only serious candidate in the ward, without fantasy promises and with a proper grasp of what is municipal and what is provincial jurisdiction.
26.09.2025 20:12 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I did not know Darren well, but when I first went out for Coffee Outside, he brewed me coffee and made me feel truly welcome.
I greatly admired his advocacy and public health work, which was exceptional.
Rest in peace, Dr Markland.
Was it Jesse Watson talking about Housing First? He knows nothing about it.
24.09.2025 03:42 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Cycling to work in Edmonton during autumn is just beautiful!

04.09.2025 19:15 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0An excellent piece about Peter Savaryn, a former Nazi who still has a street named after him in Edmonton
edmontonjournal.com/opinion/colu...
True, that could be a problem. This spring, when I went to Banff, they wanted people to take the bus to the various lakes. We did so, and unfortunately it was poorly organised, but I am not mad because they are trying to innovate, because this with cars is not sustainable. And it's not pleasant.
02.09.2025 00:15 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The final rant: a proper train from Edmonton to Jasper should take two hours. It would allow us to go in the morning, hike or climb, and return to Edmonton. It is 2025, ffs.
01.09.2025 23:57 β π 14 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Here I wanted to take a train from Edmonton to Jasper because I would be able to truly enjoy nature. It is only 370 km, yet it takes 6 hours and 30 minutes. Embarrassing. I can drive there in less than four...
01.09.2025 23:50 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I used to take a train twice a day in Bremen. A real train. It allowed me read, think, listen to music, chat with friends, or even meet new people (especially on weekends). Driving is no substitute.
01.09.2025 23:46 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I cannot wait to take a few train trips in Italy and the Balkans in October. Ok, less excited about the Balkan trains, but I miss trains so much that I sometimes dream about being on one.
It's hard living in a place with no trains.
So only detached houses are homes? That is bizarrely idiotic even for Alberta rednecks
30.08.2025 03:11 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The Name of the Rose. Not sure how I missed it before!
27.08.2025 15:29 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Easily the most progressive, and also the most well thought-out platform Iβve seen yet. Maybe I was too hard on Rutherford before, because this one is strong!!
26.08.2025 21:40 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Love seeing commitments to libraries, LRT, low-income activity programs, bike lanes, playgrounds for kidsβ¦ No fantasy projects funded by tax cuts, no wild ideas outside municipal powers. 26.08.2025 21:40 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Back to the local candidates for my ward Anirniq in Edmonton.
Erin Rutherford just released her platform and itβs actually really good. In fact, the only real platform for the ward so far!!
When he was already with the police he had another mental breakdown and started screaming something against immigrants, Indians, Pakistanis, then something about Justin Trudeau and Mark Carney, also something about 'white discrimination'... What a pos...
25.08.2025 03:42 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The story is dark, but the actorsβ deafness is not the main plot. It highlights structural discrimination everywhere, but the story is complex, and moving between BSL and English is so smooth. Also, the hearing actors really learned BSL. It was not just copying for the scenes.
25.08.2025 02:41 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0There is this brilliant new BBC TV show called Reunion. It is led by deaf actors and hearing actors who learned BSL. It is very well made, and the acting of everyone is brilliant.
