Jesse Watson actually has a detailed platform. Some of it is solid, much of it is outside council’s jurisdiction, and some of it is questionable. It is the most detailed platform in the race, but still not great overall. He pours a lot of money into his campaign while pandering to NIMBYs.

Erin Rutherford, the incumbent, is the least bad option. That does not mean good. She voted to cut the active transportation budget, which was a bad call, but at least she is not pushing outright fantasy or anti-transit agendas like the others. Previously she made some genuinely progressive moves...

Ali Haymour has no policies, just vague “common sense” nonsense. That is not a platform, it is an empty slogan. A BS candidate.

Rob Fediuk is running under the PACE banner, which is already a reason to reject him. Add in terrible policies, opposition to both the LRT and cycling, and you have a perfect anti-city-building package. Just awful.

Nurnaiya Brady is basically Cartmell’s minion. She talks about “transparent budgeting” (it is already transparent if you can read), “better infrastructure” and straight up NIMBYism. She even has the gall to talk about “unwanted bike lanes”. Total BS.

Ali Al Kassab promises lower taxes while also promising more policing, more housing, more mental health supports, more public housing. That is fantasy budgeting. He is against the LRT, wants fewer units per lot, yet somehow more housing. The platform is a pile of contradictions and BS.

In Edmonton, our municipal elections are in October. The candidates for Anirniq Ward are awful. The only one who is even remotely tolerable is the current councillor, Erin Rutherford, and that is only because the rest are so much worse. Here is the thread:

Warm or cold, I see more and more people cycling to work every morning in Edmonton. The paths are getting quite full, and I cannot even ride at my own pace anymore. And I think that is beautiful!

In any case, I still think that RAM and similar places should focus on people living here. If they have any data, I bet it shows that 95% are Edmontonians and area. And if they would collect even more, I bet that 90% would be working 9-5 or similiar hours.

You prompted me to check. The data on tourists in Edmonton is surprisingly scarce even with Visitor Travel Survey from Stats Canada, and it seems that almost all are domestic tourists. There are also some numbers from 2019 repeated, but I think they are misread.

I *love* museums that are open only when no one can visit them, RAM in Edmonton included. Who can go to a museum from 10 to 4 on a weekday, in a city with no tourists? Total waste of money.
