Hey Edmonton, every Thursday at the 124 Market there is a guy named Adam who fixes and tunes bikes. Not only is he brilliant, but he is also patient and willing to teach you a thing or two. I learned that he also has a shop nearby called Black Cap Cyclery, and his prices are more than fair. #yeg

Expanded high-speed rail network part of vision for Europe, says EUβs transport chief
The bloc β which will present plan this autumn β wants train travel to compete with planes on connectivity and cost
This is the way!
βUltimately, people will choose the train not just because it is more sustainable but because it is the more comfortable, faster and more affordable option for long-distance travel in Europe,β

There needs to be a tax reform so that detached houses pay at least like 4 separate units.

Jesse Watson actually has a detailed platform. Some of it is solid, much of it is outside councilβs jurisdiction, and some of it is questionable. It is the most detailed platform in the race, but still not great overall. He pours a lot of money into his campaign while pandering to NIMBYs.

Erin Rutherford, the incumbent, is the least bad option. That does not mean good. She voted to cut the active transportation budget, which was a bad call, but at least she is not pushing outright fantasy or anti-transit agendas like the others. Previously she made some genuinely progressive moves...

Ali Haymour has no policies, just vague βcommon senseβ nonsense. That is not a platform, it is an empty slogan. A BS candidate.

Rob Fediuk is running under the PACE banner, which is already a reason to reject him. Add in terrible policies, opposition to both the LRT and cycling, and you have a perfect anti-city-building package. Just awful.

Nurnaiya Brady is basically Cartmellβs minion. She talks about βtransparent budgetingβ (it is already transparent if you can read), βbetter infrastructureβ and straight up NIMBYism. She even has the gall to talk about βunwanted bike lanesβ. Total BS.

Ali Al Kassab promises lower taxes while also promising more policing, more housing, more mental health supports, more public housing. That is fantasy budgeting. He is against the LRT, wants fewer units per lot, yet somehow more housing. The platform is a pile of contradictions and BS.

In Edmonton, our municipal elections are in October. The candidates for Anirniq Ward are awful. The only one who is even remotely tolerable is the current councillor, Erin Rutherford, and that is only because the rest are so much worse. Here is the thread:

Five ice hockey players found not guilty in Canada sexual assault case - BBC News
The verdict marks the end of the highly publicised case, in which the men were accused of sexually assaulting a woman in 2018.
This is why women donβt come forward.
5 hockey players accused of sexually assaulting a woman in Canada were found not guilty because she wasnβt deemed credible βenoughβ
Itβs bad enough that most rapes donβt even get prosecuted, even fewer are ever found guilty:

Orban being mentioned in Albertan politics is ridiculous. 95% percent of Albertans would not be able to point to Hungary on a map, 99% percent would not know the name of Orban's political party, and 99.99 percent would know nothing about his shitty and failed policies.

That would mean 16-year-olds could buy alcohol and cannabis, serve in combat units, be tried as adults, shoot porn, gamble, serve on a jury, get a mortgage and similar loans... If kids are mature enough to vote, then they are mature enough for everything else.

16 and 17-year-olds to be able to vote in next general election as voting age to be lowered in UK - live updates
Lowering the voting age across the UK means around 1.5 million 16 and 17-year-olds will be able to vote at the next general election.
Sigh... The right to vote and the right to be elected are the highest civic rights. Allowing 16-year-olds to vote is only reasonable if the age of majority is also lowered to 16, with all other legal responsibilities and privileges...

In any case, I still think that RAM and similar places should focus on people living here. If they have any data, I bet it shows that 95% are Edmontonians and area. And if they would collect even more, I bet that 90% would be working 9-5 or similiar hours.

You prompted me to check. The data on tourists in Edmonton is surprisingly scarce even with Visitor Travel Survey from Stats Canada, and it seems that almost all are domestic tourists. There are also some numbers from 2019 repeated, but I think they are misread.
