I don't know how you prepare a population for bad economic news because the US President is crazy. I do know the UK is considerably better placed to survive the worst case than many other countries. But it will worsen a long ongoing cost-of-living crisis.

Coming up to five years here in Westray and I still have to pinch myself that we live here and that the west-facing Noup headland, just up along the road from our house, is part of my core #WestrayBirding patch.

A beautiful, sunny if a little cool day and an overdue check on the sea cliffs saw a few (by Westray numbers) Guillemots and Gannets back on the ledges. More Pied Wagtails and a significant increase in wader and Shelduck numbers plus the usual Merlin and Sparrowhawk. #WestrayBirding

Our oldest Monks Wood Marsh Tit has survived his 11th winter, and is singing again on his territory, 40 m from where he was colour-ringed in 2015. He's been widowed again so is advertising for a new female. He's probably in the top 5 oldest Marsh Tits recorded in Britain. #ukbirding #ornithology
